Can someone help me with making a custom slider in WMP 9??

OK, I just made my first WMP skin (RubberSkin), and I'm happy with it, but I have a problem: the custom slider I tried to make really stank, and on top of that, it took me at least a day and a half working on it to finally get it to work. I finally decided to just ditch it and use + and - buttons for volume.

Anyway, does anyone know an easy way to make a custom slider??
I can make the background images, it is just the grayscale map that I have trouble with.

That can be a real pain,I had hell getting mine to work.Look at any of my WMP skins and see if you can use any of them. I think some types of sliders dont require a greyscale bitmap(the linear ones),maybe just the odd shaped ones.

the trick is to not to use true black (#000000) & true white (#ffffff) in the grarscale map & to start with black at the zero value of the slider & white at the full value of the slider.

a work around that i used in my Morpheloen skin is that i have used a normal slider even for the freeform sliders in the skin, but this will work only if ur slider is non circular. take a look at the code for the slider in the skin & the images for the slider & u will understand what i mean...

Is there an easy way to make the grayscale map at all??

I have a shape in photoshop, how do I create a map from it??
(the only way I know how is painstaking and bothersome)

simple...
use a copy of the shape and apply a gradient effect to it...

oh, OK

I thought it had to be like weird and stuff:
1. I thought it had to be a Gif format
2. I thought it had to be a streak of the slider shape
