How is it that in no matter what country you look that is having an election only idiots get nominated?  Isn't there ever a smart person available?  :-"

Smart people avoid politics.;)  Anyway, finding a smart politician would be like finding a leprechaun. He could make you rich but still no one would believe you actually found one.:erk:

Yeah smart people are smart enough to avoid politics altogether. ;)

That's a bit like finding a good politician.... though my dad reckoned cemeteries everywhere are full of 'em. :-"

I have it on good authority that the next Australian Prime Minister will be...

Sir Les Patterson

He'd still have to be a better choice than that mongrel, Tony 'holier than thou' Abbott.

The more recent opinion polls suggest that Abbott will be our next PM.... uggghhhh, I certainly effin' hope not.

If Abbott becomes PM I'll seriously consider emigrating.

Trouble is, I can't run home to mother in the UK... she has just come home to me.

Oh well, there's always New Zealand.  O:)

I didn't know there was such an animal... as a good politician. :S

I always thought there were bad politicians, worse politicians, and worserer politicians. O:)

In fact, they're worse than worserer.... they'll have us out in the friggin' rain tomorrow for this damned 'compulsory' voting thing.  How effing democratic is that, in a so-called democracy.... being forced under threat of penalty to turn up at a polling station to vote.

They MAKE you vote?  8C

Make a day of it.

I usually have breakfast at a cafe with a group of friends, we walk around to the local school. Vote. Then go to the pub to catch up.

Its only once every three or so years. ;)

Yup, they do... maybe it's an indication of the calibre of politicians we have.  If voting wasn't compulsory, nobody would bother.

In communist countries, usually.  It says a lot for democracy in ours, then.  If people feel there is nobody worth voting for, it should be their democratic right to abstain.

30 min out of someone's life once every three years is not going to kill them. Having everyone vote creates a fairer system. No one is left behind. There is always the donkey vote if you don't want to vote for a jackass.

Today's the day, may the best woman win   O:)

Yes, And i think it is a good policy. A couple of months ago i would have said that Labour was going to shit it in. Now i am not so sure. After getting rid of Kevin Rudd and a few broken promises, It's going to make this election a lot lot closer than people think. I would not be surprised if on Monday we have a new Liberal government (i hope not). People may not like the Libs but when they look at the Labour party now all they see is the fact that the last 2 times Labour has been in power they have replaced the Prime Minister without an election. First Bob Hawke and now Kevin Rudd. Those things stay in memory a lot longer than a few broken election promises because we are used to them being broken. Personally i hope that Labour win but in reality both parties have a hell of a lot to prove. No point voting for independants or the Greens either. A vote for the Greens is basically a vote for Labour because of preferences. And when i did my postal vote a look at the ballot paper revealed independants like The Sex Party lol. I will just be glad when it is all over.

And on a side note, I read an article in the paper a couple of weeks ago regarding a poll of women that was conducted. I am usually quite wary of these polls and in particular this one cited that out of 500 women polled that %70 were going to vote for Julia Gillard just because she is female. I would like to think that the women of Australia are not that silly. I know it's great we finally have a female PM but vote for her because you believe she has the skills and qualifications to do the job, Not just because she happens to be a woman.

What's so strange about that? 96% - 97% of African Americans voted for Obama because he is black, even though he's a complete dick...

Mind you, that other guy was a bit scary...

I would have voted for him, too....;)

Anyway....done my 'thing' today.....someone out there is breeding like rabbits....the Queue to vote gets longer every time.

Next time I'll vote absentee.....Postal Votes is the way to go.

Watching your life ebb away in a line is soul destroying....;)

Last time the queue was so long it came out of the school grounds and went down the street 200 metres... took over 4 1/2 hours to get near the electoral clerk to have our names crossed off.

Will be going down much later today to avoid the earlybird queues... hoping that not everyone else in the electorate is thinking the same thing.

I hate standing in queues more than anything... except bankers, politicians, advertisers and lawyers. :-"

Hehe, the Labor bloke here is called Bernie Ripoll... guess what we call him???? :w00t:

No... think more about his surname... a variant of... would describe bankers and politicians perfectly.

Done! Didn't have much of a queue. Some nice old ladies fired up a barbie and cooked up some snags for $2. Money went to the local church. Yum

Well I did my bit to help stuff up the nation... voted for Mr Ripoff and his Labor crony in the senate.

Didn't worry about hanging around for snags, though.  While the queue was shorter than last time, I still wanted to get the heck out of there and come home.... late lunch and a shandy.

;P
