aligning username ad userpic

can someone out there explain in depth how to position exactly where you want the username and userpic to go?

when i do it, i just play around for hours and stumble upon what i want pretty much by chance

this isnt the info you want probably, but the user pic(if I allow the skin to have one)I put it in the user pane graphic then set the skin to hide all user icons. That way it LOOKS like there is one there, but really its hidden. This allows you to make the icon ANY shape or size or not at all.

User name text I always hide by setting the text angle to -1800

stumbling just sometimes seems to be the best approach when adjusting any margins in the StartMenu

Yep, just try anything. You never know what might work.

@ I.R. Brainiac... thanx for that info, i was looking for how to hide userpic. just one question, what do you do if you get rid of the userpic, and you want to reallign the username over the area where the userpic used to be? (how do u do this through skinstudio... i know u can just uncheck show usericon in winblinds )

Skin Studio has a setting to hide the user pic also. It is in Start Panel> User Pane.

I used to use the user pane content margins(I think),but since I always hide the user name with the technique above,I'm not sure if content margins work.

You can do a pixel by pixel shift of the username by using the Minimum X value for text. If I don't use a user icon. I set my content margins to zero, leave the horizontal text alignment at OS default, then apply skin, then look at startmenu to see how many pixels I need to move to the right the user name ( like to have it clear of a frame for example). The content margins trick was good for hiding the user icon, before they option to hide it within SKS worked.

This seems to be the only solution for working with these buggy programs. You just spend eternity until you stumble upon something that works. Not that the person who created the program knows anything about how to use it properly. Not that the program even works properly.(Ignore me, I'm in a foul mood about this program right now)

Gotta admit I've been a bit cranky too with the quirks in SS....finding workarounds for what should be a 30 minute job can sometimes take HOURS.But,Adam has really brought the program a long ways.More features for sure.More time(if there is such a thing)could be spent some of the quirkier aspects.I usually get some kind of response from him on the newsgroups tho.

hehe you should probably have clarified that in some of your other threads on the main messageboard 'cause you're coming off pretty terrible there, which isn't what I'd normally expect from you Just my two cents

Dunno if this will help or not but I have just been deleting the user picture all together and that allows some other options when trying to set the text exactly where you need it.

Thats what I meant by setting the "skin" to disable user icons, not WB.(because you cant expect people to turn that off just for your skin)
