Alpha transparency in scrollbar buttons?

Does anyone know if alpha transparency can be used on scrollbar buttons - not the slider or the glyphs but the actual arrow buttons.
I've checked the transparent and translucent boxes on my scrollbar section but the arrow buttons are drawn with a black border > so transparency doesn't seem to be working.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this not supported (just like alpha transparency in menu backgrounds isn't ) ?

Thanx for any help...

hmmmmm...that probably is the case with those....I just make my transparent images overlayed on top of my window background and flatten the image.Ends up looking the same.

Alpha isn't supported on them because there's nothing to show through underneath.
It's just a solid colour, so there's no real need for alpha.

As you say the Alpha channel isn,t supported, but there is a need for it. I dont know if you have noticed but these same buttons are used in the quick launch buttons on the Task bar. If you are using anything other than square buttons then the task bar doesn't show through. This can look very untidy.

You can have a seperate image set for the quicklaunch icons. It only uses the same buttons if you do not have an image specified for them.

Thanks for the info chaps. I thought that the background would show through but there is no background there because I can see my desktop wallpaper showing through where I haven't done an image for the resize gripper yet.
Looks like I'll be going with Brainiac's suggestion and overlay the buttons on the background then flatten 'em all...

Just need an idea for my background...
