Png graphics and Desktop

I have noticed that designers are using png extentions for their objects. I use Macromedia Fireworks for my projects and am wondering how the animations are included into the graphics. Are they using html with that or straight images?? Are they layering the the images? or something else?

Create your images in a filmstrip-like setup. Make the width of the image the amount of frames you want, times the height of the image. Then insert each "frame" into its proper spot in the image. Save as a png, then tell DX how many frames the image is. Voila, instant animation.

Or better still, make each image separately, then use aniutil.exe (included with desktopx) to put them together in the "film strip".
