Ingame video and video sounds skip, how do I fix?

Ok, im prettysure its my computer just being slow. I have a 450mhz pent 3, voodoo 3 16mb, almost 500mb ram, 4x cd-rom. If there is anyway for me to get the video and sound to stop skipping, someone please tell me :(

We found that most machines running WinME or 9x were likely to experience problems with the full-screen movies. Alot of times updating your video drivers will do the trick, but 600mhz is really the cut-off point for seamless cutscenes :( Sorry.

Just as a consolation. I'm at the exact same system, 450 AMDk62, voodoo 3, 256mb ram, ESS Solo-1 motherboard sound, and I get the terrible skipping too. One time I disabled my sound card and everything ran smooth. I thought maybe it had to do with the fact that I had an on-board sound card and that its not capable to hardware buffering.

Strangely, the starting movie, the torch guy on the colony ship, runs fairly smoothly without the 1 second sounds ommisions. That seems to be the only one though.

Many people are experiencing this problem. It is being discussed in at least 2 other threads plus the Bug Report thread but has not been addressed yet. It would be nice to see some progress on this issue since it may be the only problem that many are having with this game.
