Is there a way to improve range?

Here's the situation: I've found one of the best systems in a medium sized galaxy w/habitable planets set on rare. No one else has seen it yet. The problem is my colony ship's range. There are no untapped anomalies nearby to build a starbase on. It's in the corner of the map and the closest unowned planets still don't allow support for my ship to get close. As far as I can tell I've maxed out the research options that extend range. Any thoughts?

Several:

You can build starbases anywhere, not just on resources.

As you know, this would extend your range. To build
a starbase without using a resource, choose the
little icon near the constructor info button. Or
open the constructor info button and select the option
from there. Im sure there is a hotkey for it too, probably
'b', but im not sure.

Also, it seems insanely unlikely you have researched
all the +range techs as with them all you can
pretty much reach one side of a medium galaxy to the
other with a colony ship.

The main early techs for range are the gravity
mastering techs. The later ones exist on the road
to final frontier, so you might not have them yet :)

Yeah, I learned the hard way that you need to get Controlled Gravity and Gravity Mastering. Otherwise your capital ships are quite crippled ...

I didn't know you could build a base anywhere! That will help immensely. Thanks! Btw, I had researched both controlled gravity and gravity mastering. Yet this upper left corner was still out of range for a colony ship. I dunno, it's only my 6th game, so obviously there's still a great deal to discover.

thanks again
