Message: SDS0004 - Could not retrieve file CoreShips.SHI_ on server http://scripting.stardock.com/

This could be a "server down" problem, but...

What can I use here to understand what to report on this problem? How can I
be sure there isn't something on my system causing this error? This is after a
previous attempt to install GalCiv that failed with a message "error 13 data 13",
so there is some possibility that this is a problem of residulal data interfering with
the subsequent install attempt.

The file CoreShips is the first file that I can see being requested when trying to
install GalCiv, but some communication must have happened even to get this
far. Are multiple servers involved? Is all of GalCiv on a server or spread out
across several? Does the DGM start with one server when trying to install a
game to find out the details of where files are then go to the servers containing
those files?

I have received some suggestions from others (in the wrong threads) that I
have tried. If these are any help to Pat, I want him (her?) to have these resutls.
1). Uninstall and re-install GalCiv - I could only delete the GalCiv folder and
try install again. No glory (:(
2) Uninstall (with unwise) and re-install DGM - again, NG (:(

I haven't heard anything yet from Pat. Should I be looking for him (her?) on
the drengin.cm news group?

I tried checking if the server "scripting.stardock.com" was functional and got a
home page from it.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling BUGS, which worked without a problem.

I suspect there is something residual on my system from the "error 13" I got
with the first install of GalCiv I tried.

I just tried again to load GC. I found the following in the debug file.

Debug Message: File size is is not correct: C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\drengin\gc1\Base\Data\CoreShips.SHI_
Error: SDS0004 - Could not find file CoreShips.SHI_ on server http://scripting.stardock.com/

So I deleted the file, and got further.

This time I am looking at the file that failed before retrying. Here is what I have:
file: GCTech.TEC_
Modified 1/11/2002 5:50 PM
Size: 2.54 KB

Interesting - That time is when I tried my first install, so I have nothing to
correlate with what may have been on the server at that time.

After deleting this file, now the date and time are changed (as expected) to
when it was downloaded onto my system and the file size is now 2.55 KB, and
the install continued until it ran into the "error 13 data 13" problem (subject of
another thread).

It would be nice if the DGM was beefed up to do some error recovery here
to delete the old temp file when it finds a size missmatch and retry downloading
the file.

Another question: Why is the server name changed when it gets stored on
this forum?

The name of the server with out all the http colon slant slant stuff is
scripting.,stardock.com

I have finally gotten past this problem. I have, arguably, the worst ISP around.
I have diffinitively identified these failures to the tendency my ISP has to do
strange disconnects and sudden cessation of input data. (Could this be a loss of
syncronization?)

Also, the error indications I got from DGM were very confusing, making it
difficult for me to isolate and diagnose the cause.

Please see my comments and suggestions in the drengin.cm news group for
ways for 1). DGM to handle these problems and 2). DGM to make clear to the
user what the cause of the problem(s) is(are).

I also had the same problems. I'd support DGM change to autoclean and reconnect.
