Question on Eyes of the Universe

The description of this project reads "This Galactic Wonder will vastly increase our sensor range."

Does anyone know how "vast" this improvement is? How many squares improvement per ship? Would it improve a Dreadnought to have the view radius of a sensor drone for instance?

I don't know exactly how much, but it's pretty big. "Vast" is a pretty good word for it. It's a must on a gigantic galaxy so you can see your enemies massing strength before they get to you.

Scouts see a whole sector and then some after getting it.

I love it. You can live with no sensor upgrades and just go for that pretty early.

The improvement is at least 10 sectors. This wonder should be your best friend if you are the type of player who doesn't really warmonger, but never wants to be caught off guard in case war happens.

This one is a great one to get. Nothing like seeing that armada coming at you miles away.

I like getting Eyes of the Universe and then building enough sensor drones (upkeep 0) to completely eliminate the fog of war.

Since the game hides enemy resource starbases from you, this trick helps you track resources better.

From 'wonders.imp':

AbilityType 14 //sensors
AbilityAmount 10

Gerakken nails it; the simplest interpretation appears to be 10 parsecs, if it's not relative to map size or existing sensor ability.

Eye of the Universe is probably the one essential wonder... it's the only thing that makes me load game and buy if I'm beaten to it.

I'm not sure if it's absolutely essential. Depends on map size I guess. I can get by pretty well by building enough sensor drones. But Eyes definitely helps a lot!
