20% doesn't seem accurate ...

In two cases I question the in-game text saying that you will receive a 20% bonus.

The first is Gravity Accelerators. Seems to me the bonus is two squares, not 20%. In most cases this results in much greater than a 20% bonus.

The other case is Harmony Generators. I can't be completely sure, but it seemed to me in my last game that building a Harmony Generator gave me much more than a 20% morale bonus on a colony. Unless I was drunk (which is possible) I thought I saw a colony go from morale level 38% to 100% after the Harmony Generator was built.

Anyone else? Was I drunk? Other observations?

I think you have a base moral - some number in the 100 to 300 range. Any percentage points you accrue you multiply by this number and that's what you get for a moral bonus.

so your moral might jump by 40% when you get a 20% bonus if the base number was 200.

Techs however add to the base moral by 10. (the +10 means +10 added to the base number)

the population moral is calculated by subtracting PQ bonuses and penalties and subtracting the population penalties for moral. I think population is on a logarithmic scale.

Thus the difference between 1000 and 100 is the same as the difference between 100000 and 10000.

That's what I think.

1. Speed bonuses. Yes, speed bonuses are really +10% equals +1 speed. I disapprove of this feature, because it makes the base speed of a ship meaningless. The "base speed" for most ships ranges from 0 to 3, but does that really matter when you get +4 to speed?

Really, +speed should take the "base speed" of the ship into account more. Otherwise, why bother giving different speed ratings to ships?

2. There are two types of "morale bonuses". There's "social project morale" and "racial morale". Your racial morale depends on your racial picks, tech level, morale resources, trade goods (frictionless clothing, etc), and racial ability (i.e., you get the +2 morale anomaly). To compute the actual planetary bonus from a morale social project, you take the social project bonus and multiply it by your racial bonus.

Actually, even if your racial morale is 0%, you still get more than just the social project boost to morale. There was an article by Ellestar on this on the Apolyton site.

fsk+ has it down. racial picks, techs, moral resources and trade goods go in the racial part of moral and the social projects go in another

multiplication give a much higher than expected bonus.
