XP Pro taskbar problem

I have done a search for this and found nothing (both on here and google)

All the time i am using windows its fine and dandy no complaints at all.
The problem comes when i lock the computer using windows key+L and then i go to log on again.

I have a verticle taskbar on the left hand side and when i type my password in to unlock the pc again all the programs are still running like they should but they have maximised themselves so that now the taskbar is overlapping the window. So in effect they have shifted underneath the taskbar. The content of the window (irc IE whatever) is the same size though and that has shifted over under the taskbar leaviing a white bar the same size as the taskbar on the right hand side of the screen.

To sort it out minimising and maximising the window sorts it out but needless to says its rather annoying speciialy with the amount of programs i tend to leave running.

So I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and knows a way to fix it. If you don't understand my description of what is happening I can take a screen shot and mail it. Its been like this for months now and well I am getting a bit miffed with it ;]

Thanks in advance

Does this happen if you use a horizontal taskbar?

just been playing around with it and sometimes the windows do display under the taskbar when horizontal as well

annoying thing was i thought a fresh install of windows would have solved it but it didn't :/
