toolboxes in Adobe applications inconsistent with certain skins

I've noticed that, with certain skins, toolboxes in my Adobe applications don't work the same. The main issue is that when I select a tool in the toolbox, it doesn't highlight. It's not a big deal and otherwise the application is skinned perfectly. It's mostly just a little annoying. However, not all skins have this problem. I'm wondering if anyone knows why the toolbox tools highlight fine with certain skins and don't with others and if there's any way to correct the issue.

Well I was hoping someone a little more informed than me might pick up on this but I guess not, so too bad for you...

Short answer is that Adobe doesn't follow the conventions for assigning colors and such.

I don't think I see a problem with highlights so much.  What I do see is a frequent problem with dark skins making the tools sections and the statusbars illegible because dark text ends up on a dark background.  I can tell you how to fix that and maybe you can go from there.

Note up front that this actually changes the skin, and for everything - not just Adobe, and it is a good idea to backup the skin before you start tinkering in case you want to go back. Also, if you like, you can create a separate substyle within the skin and make the changes to that new substyle.

Windowblinds configuration window, colors tab.  Click on "Change skin system colours..." in the lower right corner. Click on "System Colour: ButtonFace to highlight it, click on "Change color" button, and then choose a lighter color in the color-picker window.

The different toolbar buttons behave between skins against Adobe programs could be based on the way the skinner makes its skin, some programs (the more modern ones) use Windows Vista/Windows 7 guidelines for its controls, so the newer model have toolbar buttons with 6 states instead of 5, used in the older XP Explorer.

The 5 and 6 frames model also have different states order:

• 6 frames (new) model: Normal, Hover, Pressed, Disabled, Activated, Activated-hover

• 5 frames (old) model: Normal, Pressed, Disabled, Hover, Default

Conclusion: some skins that does not have all toolbar buttons section skinned (view in SkinStudio) could be using the old buttons model in more modern programs that need the new model, missing and alternated frames order could be the cause of your issue.
