Thanks, Brad

Brad,

I just wanted to say thanks for your comments and posts since the terrorist attacks.
I know that I've come across as caustic to both you and Stardock in the past, but I had to thank you for being both level headed and firm in your resolve to defend the integrity of the United States during this horrific time.
I didn't want to make this a public issue on the boards since it would either be construed as butt kissing, or just another reason for a few of our community members to post inflammatory remarks about how the US some how deserved this monstrosity.

On the other hand, you deserve to be thanked publicly for your stance on the issues, and especially for your knowledge of history in your rebuttals.
How this event has effected me personally is a private matter for me at this time, and I'll leave it at that, except to say that the expression "Where there is Life, there is Hope", is one that I cling to at the moment.
But once again, I thank you for both your integrity and sensitivity during this time of tragedy.

Elwin

Thanks for your kind words.

In these days of moral relativism and arguments of moral equivalence, it's important that people realize that good and evil do exist and that evil can be defeated utterly.

People think that these fanatics can't be stopped, that by taking out one, another will step into place. This kind of thinking shows a lack of knowledge of history. The problem can be solved, it is just a matter of whether the civilized countries of the world will have the resolve to solve it.

The United States has resolved to do it and I have faith that our friends in Europe and Asia will step up the the plate be part of this crusade to save future generations from living in a world of constant fear and terror.

If it mean you lose your children in the war are you still willing to stand up?
I'm not!

it was only 19 ppl that carried this out, all it really takes for these things to happen is a handful of nuts w/ no hearts or compasion to carry this stuff out,
so lets go kill the ppl that harbor the nuts and all the innocent ppl around them that dont have anything to do w/ this...

and then lets see if after a long pause in history it dont "ever" happen again...

it will cuz ppl will be ppl

we never went in and rid the world of Sadam (or whatever his name is) and look at the grief he caused...

if "We are so advanced" we should have a tactical force go in and exterminate the rats w/o exterminating the members of the house.

Doreen, you need to look at this from a rational large scale perspective.

The United States really has no choice. These attacks won't stop. They will continue to escalate. Eventually these people will have nuclear weapons.

To try to dismiss these people as a "few nuts" is to ignore the danger. It took more more than a "few nutes" to do this. It required considerable capital and organization to do this.

Doing nothing will ensure that someone's children are most assuredly lost. And probably a lot of someone's children.

Oh brother I never said dismiss! we are suppose to be so big and powerful, why can't we handle this in a civilized way by going in and getting rid of the culprits w/o being so uncivilized ourselves in the process...

again Brad I ask you if your boys will be the ones picking up the tab right now will "you" sacrafice them?

I won't!

you are kidding yourself if you think that this world can "ever" be rid from evil...

yes we prob will go to war, but nothing will change, it will happen again after a "time" but only w/ a different face.

Can we get rid of evil? No.

But if you don't think we can get rid of islamic militants, then I suggest you take a hard look at the history of World War II.

Fascism was thought to be the next big thing. The wave of the future. Nothing would stand in its way.

No one would have ever thought that the world could be totally rid of Nazism.

But it's effectively gone as a force in the world. But there are still Nazi's here and there but it's gone as an effective force.

Islamic militants are today's Nazis. Can we get rid of each one? No. But we can so devastate it that it will cease to be an effective force in the world.

You don't see Japanese terrorists attacking the United States. We don't worry about a car bomb coming from disgrunted Germans.

Consider why that is.

and so here we go possibly into World War III???

Brad the news is scarey over here, again look at your little boys, are "you" willing to stand up at them possibly being killed in this process that may come about right now?

I'm not!

You make an artificial distinction, Doreen.

If we do not eradicate terrorism, my little boy may be killed. We all could be killed. In case you didn't read it, I've been to the WTC many times. I have a security badge because of my travels there. You keep making the artificial distinction that somehow, being a civilian is protection. Clearly, that doesn't mean a thing.

I do think this could become a World War III in the sense that the entire world may be involved. But unlike previous wars, all of the civilized nations will be on the same side.

You cannot treat this as a law enforcement issue. It's not. It's a war. It's a war that is going to continue whether we do anything or not.

An interesting point of course...the concept of 'free-speech'....'free-assembly'...'free religion', etc.
Skin-heads are the modern fascists....but they have an in-alienable right to exist in the US.
It apparently only takes 19.....
The KKK.....obviously delusional fanatics....allowed to exist in the US....
It apparently only takes 19.....
Wako....don't you just lurve religion?
Could be 19 still breathing....
Anyone like some cool-ade, Reverend Jim?...

To permanently eradicate Terrorism and its potential...surgical strikes are going to be needed in some very sensitive locations.

Is the Western World in general, and the US in particular prepared to take out their own?

Terrorism is not an 'off-shore' target at all.
It can be your neighbour.

If it is to be done 'correctly', it will be very messy.

Be careful what you wish for. It will necessitate an end to a lot of 'freedoms' that are the 'free' in 'Free World'...

The reason we no longer fear the Japanese, Germans or for that matter Iraqi's as a threat is that America defeated them militarily. America also still to this day maintains and controls the miltary forces in those countries.

The important thing to remember here Doreen is that people are in danger either way. If you do nothing then your children might be in the next building that explodes. At least by taking action we control our own destiny....... War in this case is silly because there is no army to fight, however some very intense police action could go a long way to making this world a safe place. The last time I checked, Doreen, every person who takes part in these actions is a volunteer....

Nice words Rick

oh well this is going to take it's course no matter what...

(The streets outside where I'm living are "Full" of ppl screaming and honking horns and carrying on right this very moment getting all hyped up and it's truely frightening!)

all I'm saying is that there will never be a guarantee of security from such terriorist attacks ever, more Blood shed will not ensure it. but ppl will "feel" as if they accomplished something, lets just hope it don't get nuclear or there will be nothing to defend left =/

/goodnight you guys

Doreen i think you will be hard pressed to find even one american soldier not wanting to carry this mission out.

Out of all of the recent wars we have been involved in, there hasnt been a more righteous reason to enter into this, than what happened on tuesday. The pacifist way of thinking only gets you conquered. Our soldiers volunteer for service for their country. There is no draft.

It is such a righteous, that the rest of the world is with us. Even countries that dont typically like us.

Doreen your statement kind of reminds me of that classic star trek episode where kirk and spock go to the planet where the klingons are killing the civilians and the government just stands by and does nothing, meanwhile the planet's citizens are being slaughtered. Think it was called "Errand of Mercy."
Except here we're the Organians. And we're pissed.

Evil cannot be wholly conquered. But it can be beaten down to a low.

We don't worry today about Japanese or German terrorists are going to attack us. Why? Because their cultures are assimilated into the wider world. We are all friends now.

Our goal needs to bring these people into the wider world. And right now, it seems that military force would be the most effective way to do that just as it was in World War II.

Dor, I would bet you, ALL the Mothers & Fathers (Past & Present) in this world would love to have the choice weather their Children went off to War. Not too long ago, they didn't. I am grateful now So many DO volenteer. My neice is one. She served in the Navy for 4 years and her & her husband just reinlisted in the Airforce.

China look at "your" two little girls, would you sacrafice them to play this part in history?

I've never been wrapped up into all this stuff that runs behind ppl's minds and makes them act out.
(Like these nuts that just murdered all these innocent ppl for a role they thought they just had to play) makes me sick!!!

I still think as far as we have supposidily evolved as human beings and advanced technologicly (sp chk that tech word please Jafo) have come "WHY" can't we have a Special Tactical Force go into these small countries and remove the rats w/o exterminating the families living in the house w/ them that may not have a choice they reside w/ them! That's all I'm saying,
I'm not saying sit back and ignore, just handle this more "advanced" then them, I know something HAS to be done, it's the how that I'm hoping is not going to shed more innocent Blood...

/now go ahead and misinterpet me some more and have fun bashing me

I'm done

I wish Doreen you would listen to the words of others instead of simply repeating what you have stated over and over. Please re-read what I have said above to you and respond to that rather than repeating emotionally charged but practically useless statement of "look in your little boy's eyes.."

Doing nothing ensures that innocents will die. More innocents than if we do something decisive.
