Combining two themes; apply theme ONLY to start menu

Load 1 theme, replace start menu with another's

Hi everyone. I found a skin I really like, but the start menu is crap! Not just visually but functionally. But the rest of this Theme #1 is good, and i'd keep it.

I would to use the start menu of another theme. I don't care which all programs list is used, but I want everything that makes up the start menu from layout to its button design (which is independent from the rest of the theme) to be loaded over / replace the one of Theme #1.

Is there a way to do that? Load only certain components of a theme, like a check mark list of "apply theme to: start menu, windows, icons" etc.? I was SO SURE I remember being able to do that in an earlier version of windowblinds, though maybe I'm thinking something else.

Thanks!

PS: already did a search, but they didn't seem to be exactly what I was looking for.

Open WB config and  select settings. Halfway down the settings  window you will see where to select which start menu and taskbar you want to use. I see no way to use the start menu only.

Woops, sorry, don't know how I missed that. Thanks, that will suffice. :)

However, is there anything like I said? Am I crazy, thinking of another program, or was there not some list of components so you could choose what to skin? Maybe I'm thinking theme manager? After many years I'm only now returning to this software and checking it out again and looking to purchase soon.

Sounds like you're thinking of Theme Manager.  It lets you pick from wallpaper, WindowBlind, icons, etc.  But it won't let you pick and choose individual pieces within different Windowblinds skins.

Other than what Wizard's already said, you would have to edit the WindowBlinds skin using SkinStudio.  Once you get the hang of it, tweaking within SkinStudio is not a terribly daunting task.  (And that's coming from someone who, despite 3 false starts now, has been completely unable to create anything even reasonably passable as a WB theme. Or anything else in terms of original graphics for that matter. )

haha, ok, thanks. Honestly, that should somehow be a feature in object desktop though!

If I have to, I will go edit in skinstudio. I started doing my own skin some years so MAYBE I still remember enough to be able to pick up on it again. Maybe I'll get back around to making my own skin sometime.

I've just posted a similar thread and found this topic. I'm also trying to pick individual pieces from different skins and create a combined theme... Would SkinStudio be able to do that?

End of Adyghost's quote

I would think SkinStudio would be the only way to do that.  I also would think that you would need to stay with an OS, in other words only work with a parts from skins that are for the same OS (Win 7, Vista, XP), otherwise you will more than likely run into problems.  Just remember that anything you create by doing this would be for personal use only.  :sun:

I see, thanks. I'll download the free version of SkinStudio and give it a try.
