Easiest place to put Wallpapers is in youy Windows folder....normally C:\Windows\
Then Desktop Properties will display all of them in its list for you to choose from....

....and if the wallpaper is a jpg instead of a bmp file, then you will need to have your desktop set as 'view as web page'.
to do this:
right click on the desktop
choose active desktop
make sure there a tick next to 'view as webpage'

then you can right click the desktop and choose 'properties'....click the 'browse' button.....scroll through the windows folder (or wherever you have the file you want to use) and select any bmp, jpg or even gif file to use as your wallpaper.

...good luck

or just convert the JPG into BMP.
/me thinks active desktop is evil.

of course, however, active desktop doesn't work well with many skinning programs. probably your best bet for using jpegs or any other image type on your dt, is to get a program like irfanview or acdsee and use it to set your wallpaper
