Microsoft screws up again!

Microsoft screws up again!

"The Windows Live Gallery has been retired. In order to focus support on the much richer set of opportunities available for the newest version of Windows, Microsoft is no longer supporting development or uploading of new Gadgets. However, some of the most popular and highest-rated gadgets are still available on the Gadgets page of the Windows Personalization Gallery."

So now it appears I cannot even get some of my favorite gadgets. Yes maybe they are out there somewhere but now we have to spend a lot more time searching for them instead of just clicking on get more gadgets. >:(

So windows 8 is going to drop the sidebar from the "classic" interface?

Not one of their best ideas.

I use it a fair bit and I think its popular with less technical users too.

Would it be pirating to share for personal use only something from your personal collection? (as long as they were not paid or Master skins)
End of Wizard1956's quote

Technically, yes.

If a skin [whatever] is publicly accessible for free download it is reasonable to argue no harm no foul if a third party passed it on directly rather than had them access the source likewise.

However, if a skin [whatever] is withdrawn from public access by the author/agent then its 'free distribution' is rescinded so anyone subsequently freely distributing it 'MAY' be in breach of the requirements of the copyright holder, though that won't always be the case.

If Microsoft has removed access to these Gadgets [for whatever reason] then the one true lawful access to them will be directly from their author/s [assuming MS does not now/still own exclusive rights].

The bit 'people' got wrong here is to PUBLICLY accuse another of theft/piracy which quite simply is Libel and/or defamation.

Such MUST be handled privately or those involved can/will be removed.

Re site 'departures'.  The directive [from on high] has always been that if one packs his bags and goes....that's it.

However, I [for one] am a softie, and have been known to take personal time out to chase up and reinstate deleted galleries of those having 'second thoughts.'

The door's always open.

Until a site Admin specifically shuts it....;)

Doesnt pirating require some form of monetary exchange? Just saying. That's quite an accusation.

Over and done with.
