No more.

You got my money on good faith, never again.

So here I am playing galactic warfare 2 and it dawns on me... this game is getting pretty old now. So I hit the net and pull up stardocks game section and eventually find my way to this game. Being pleased with my previous experience with purchasing galactic warfare 2, I did not think twice about ordering it. Since I was on my wifes laptop I went ahead and downloaded and installed the game using impulse and everything went fine.

A few days later the DVD came in the mail and I installed it to my main desktop. Setup went good, and the game worked great, well as great as it can on my system anways, 10 players on hard will eventually eat up the 2gb memory and lock the system but thats ok because I can fix that.

Then I got looking into the mods and I was happy as a kid seeing the star trek mods out. I quickly downloaded as many as I could find and uncompressed them all to review the readme.txt's in each respective archive. Noticing my module folders did not match the version notations of the others I hit the download updates link in the game because I had already discovered impulse would not run on my xp 64 desktop.

Here is where my experience with you will end. The download button just launches impulse....

If GAMESTOP, a multi million dollar company cannot afford a windows xp 64 bit os to test its products on MUCH less just make it work on ANY 64bit os, why are you working with them? Your website is even reliant on them, not to mention it took me 4 or 5 activation emails just to get to where I could write this post. I dont know if gamestop noticed but 2006 did happen and they 64bit architecture is HERE in real life.

Its a shame that you guys can make such awesome games and give crap for support and community. Seriously this website is a joke, I've seen better from 12 year old kids doing homework. I know I'm being very rude but come on, at some level of stupid, rude is a required response.

Since I cant get updates I cant get mods so I wont bother to learn to mod if my mods wont work for anyone unless they are as out of date as me, thus i have no interest in your social community here. I was looking forward to seeing the second version of this game but I'll likely just find a pirated copy.

You can kiss my hard earned cash goodbye.

I'm probably not going to come back so dont bother trolling me. I'm a PC tech who's used computers since age 4 and I have my own IT company. I know what im doing, its not user error. Its simply design failure at its best.

Goodbye :)

I have a 64bit OS and everything works just fine, so maybe you should review that 'it's not user error' comment and I don't know, use that IT experience and figure out what's wrong on your end and make it work?  I won't give you the rundown of things to check, because you, an owner of an IT company should have already thought of those things but the program itself isn't the problem...  And I'm running it on winblows shita...

Maybe if he had asked for help instead of probably earning an instaban, he might be a happier man right now? Either way, I don't care what happens to him, just as long as he never comes back here. We don't need or want his kind here.

Same here. I got Impulse to operate both on Windows XP 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit. Admittedly I have only been using computers since I was 8 and work for UPS rather then own a profitable IT company (I work for free) but I can get it to work.

I had absolutely no problems with installing Impulse on either my 32 bit or 64 bit computers, whether XP, Vista or Win7. You know, even computer geniuses can need tech support, its not like you're degrading yourself sending a support email or asking the community for help.

Further, I advise that the Devs add custom map sharing to Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion.

well then i go to close down for the night, notice one comment, and in between shutting down and posting I get 3 more...

Stant123:

before you go thinking your hot shit for sounding all smug, i did everything to the point of putting a new hard drive in the computer and rebuilding it from ground 0 only installing the game and then impulse. Impulse install always failed, the one time it did decide to work was from inside the game but that quickly failed as soon as I downloaded the updates.

maybe next time you should read the XP part and remember your on VISTA before you start talking like you know anything.

JA_394:

Kudos! I know I'll probably get banned but I could care less. Its pretty impossible to ban someone for good on any site.

Ryat:

windows 7 x64 is NOT windows xp64, not even close.

GoaFan77:

it works on xp on a 64 bit computer, not xp 64 bit on a 64 bit computer.

ITT somebody still using the obsolescence of XP, and then blaming software developers for not testing their product on an obsolete OS.

I use it in Windows XP Professional and in Windows 7 Ultimate...no issues.

the site should reflect that it will not work for xp64

You've got that backwards there buddy, you're the one coming on here thinking you're all hot shit and acting all smug...  You're the one saying you've been on computers since you were 4 and running an IT company.  All I said was review the it's not user error statement.  You are a human after all.  Humans make mistakes and overlook things, even simple things.  Nor did I post up a long list of things for you to check, because as I said, I'm sure you already checked them giving you the benefit of the doubt.  So whatever perceived attitude you got, shove it right up your ass, as there was none on my part.

I'm fully well aware I'm on vista, that's why I noted it.  You as the IT professional should know that people claim XP as being superior to vista, so if the inferior system can handle it, the superior one should be just fine.

I guess they should note it won't work Windows ME, Windows 98/SE, Windows 95, Windows NT, or Windows 1.0 either?

Well, i use XP pro x64 and it is not really a obsolete OS... initial release was from 2005, last service pack from 2007... it remain a effective OS who don't use gb ram for only "improve" the GUI...

I think that the problem from "f-u-im-bobsomebody" is maybe related to his CPU and/or OS.

He claim to use "windows xp64"...I think that he mean "windows xp 64 edition" who is for IA-64 architecture ( itanium processor )... the only 64 bit xp version for x86-64 processor ( AMD64 and Intel64 ) is called "Windows XP professional x64 edition"

Soase and Impulse run on IA-32 and x86-64 processor/OS, not on IA-64 processor/OS...

By the way, one of my multiple OS is "windows XP professional x64 edition" with service pack 2... Soase and Impulse work perfectly on my computer ( a dual Xeon quad core who are 64 bits processor ) !!!

I'm a PC tech who's used computers since age 4 and I have my own IT company. I know what im doing, its not user error. Its simply design failure at its best.
End of quote

Well, i have not begin to use computer before the age of 10 but i have a valid excuse... it was not practical to begin earlier, when computer was taking the volume of a full room and cost a lot of money :p :p :p

By the way, Microsoft have fully discontinued "windows xp 64 bit edition" several years before Ironclad/Stardock begin work on Soase or Impulse  ( in fact before Ironclad was created !!! ) ... How devs can test their software on OS who are not anymore distributed/supported...

ps : If by "windows xp64", you don't mean "windows xp 64 edition" but mean "windows XP professional x64 edition", your problems are certainly "user error" ( since it work in my case )... and a real IT professional need to be aware of the various windows flavor, their difference and their exact names... a customer asking "xp x64" and receiving "xp 64" will not remain a customer for long...

And it's Galactic Civilization 2. Human error is seeming more likely...

This dam Impuse is crap. I cannot get it to do anything on my PC. Gamestop is the spawn of Satan. I know because not only do I own 2 IT companies but I'm also an Ordained Minister and A Witch doctor. I also subscribe to Playboy magazine and have Batman Underoos, so I know what I'm talking about.

haha they changed the requirements since I purchased it! really cute stardock, the wayback machine shows your website having this as the system requirements on may 24th of this year:

Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista / Windows 7
1.8 GHz Single-Core Processor
512 MB RAM (1 GB for Windows Vista)
128 MB DirectX 9 3D Video Card (Radeon 9600 / GeForce FX 6600 and above)
DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card
DVD-ROM Drive
3 GB Hard Drive Space
Keyboard and Mouse
DirectX 9.0c

I knew it had it on the website when I purchased it because since I use an old OS I am smart enough to check for this crap. Says XP right on the box anyways though.

here is the link if you dont believe me. It does not have the CSS files so you will have to hit CTRL+A to see the text on the page since its black text on black background.

I really wish I never would have learned this. I want my fucking money back now.

Thanks Whiskey144 for probably checking the system requirements and seeing xp was not on there and dropping a comment in here. I just learned VOLUMES about stardock.
End of f-u-im-bobsomebody's quote

Well on the 24th of May Stardock was still in the process of handing over Impulse to Gamestop. Now what Gamestop does with it now shouldn't be blamed on Stardock.

Customers who are having issues updating should email [email protected] for assistance.  GameStop PC Download App (aka Impulse) support is available from [email protected].  Windows XP 64-bit has never been a supported OS for either Sins of a Solar Empire or Impulse.
