No. There is a finite amount of stars and planet

Does your computer have infinite resources?  If so, I have a patent attorney standing by.

You could make a custom map with hundreds if not thousands of planets....might kill your computer though, which is the real limitation....

Well, in my archive, i have found a interesting old free software who cannot be find anymore on the internet... http://www.love-from-russia.be/galaxy01.zip ...

These little thing generate a random galaxy with 1 million star and allow to navigate it... now, need only to find somebody for build a game engine over it...

Well, i use a other commercial software who is very fun too... it is called universe sandbox ... http://store.steampowered.com/app/72200/ ... i really like to play god and destroy full galaxy...

Point is that it is not the amount of planet/star who is killing the computer resource with soase... but what happen on planet ( upgrade, population, health, artifact, orbital structure, etc ) and everything who fly between planet ( military fleet, numerous trade/refinery ship ) ...

for a almost not ending game, you can maybe modify the ship speed to be more realistic... jump between planet who take months, jump between star who take years... a soase game will take a few lifetime... you begin the game and the next generation finish it...

Once you've gotten a good collection of bombers, there's nothing that can stand in your way if you're playing the AI, and continuing is a bit pointless. Everything's researched, the enemies are all dead, what else would there be to do...
