i was playing a 1v1 game and i was winning, but I hadn't gotten to the enemy's capital yet and I suddenly won (about 3 hours in). The weird thing is when I went back to check the settings I had for victory conditions, all conditions were 'off'.

The AI can probably still surrender just like it can in Trinity, so if you were clearly winning that might have happened.

It is possible to win a military victory by destroying enemy ships only apparently. At least I've personally blown up a fleet and seen the side retire afterwards.
