Did all the patches update the AI to be better and smarter? Or do I have to buy the expansionf or better AI.
The patches made the AI smarter yes. But the increase in difficult level is only in diplomacy and rebellion.
Thats naturally hard to quantify which expansion has "better" AI. However, given the number of new players complaining the AI seems to be better or at least more aggressive in Diplomacy compared to normal Sins. Entrenchment probably has the easiest AI, just because its the slow normal Sins AI but you have starbases in that expansion.
