Cannot update; sins of a solar empire

I have registered the game on the 'gamestop'. I went through a lengthy process and at the when the download was strating I got a error message. Added to that 'gamestop' started to advertise products on my desktop, (not cool). So deleted gamestop of my computer.

Then I read you have to ativicte with your steam account - great! But steam won't reconise my Serial Number???

Any ideas or fix's as I am waiting to play while Rebellion is in Beta (I own Beta Rebellion very good so far - love the titans).

the standard advice is to email support @ stardock.com with all details, and ask them to help.
