Game worth it for Star Wars mods?

I have never played this game before but I saw a few screenshots of Star Wars mods for it.

Just wondering if it's worth the money.

I don't know much about this game other than the reviews I have seen on youtube.

Is the space combat with the Star Wars mods like Empire at War?

Much better in my opinion. You can't focus on hardpoints like in Empire at War but the space battles are on much larger scale (only 5 ISDs lol) , ships can have more special abilities, and its entirely in real time, you build your forces and develop your planets while the action is going on. And such its a bit harder to learn than EaW, but more than worth it if you like more complicated strategy games or just tons of Star Wars ships firing at each other.

Only thing is that since Rebellion just came out everyone is still working on the mods. The first version of one of them is out but its still missing a lot of the stuff it had. They'll get there eventually though.

Yeah I really liked Empire at War.  A lot of people bag on that game but it's one of my favorite RTS.  Yeah the land battles aren't the best but it's cool you can go do the planets and control them.

I heard Sins is similar to Civ?  I have never played Civ.  Civ doesn't interest me because I heard the combat is auto resolve and whoever has the biggest army wins.  I want to control the army.

What is the best Star Wars mod?  I plan to buy the whole Sins on steam.

Well I was one of the ones who was disappointed in EaW because the space battles weren't as good as they could have been, but I love Sins.

Sins is an RTS with some 4X elements. It wanted to capture the scale of turn base games like Civ and total war while having entirely real time gameplay. Combat wise it is almost purely an RTS. In fact it is more of an RTS in my opinion that EaW, since the "game map" and the "battle map" are the exact same thing. There is no transition from one to the other when a battle takes place, you manage your empire while controlling your fleet. Just like in a normal Starcraft RTS you build up your base on the same map you battle with your army, its just this time the map can potentially have over a hundred planets on it. ;)

In short, the elements Sins takes from Sins are mostly in management, research and economy related, not combat.

That depends entirely on what eras you're interested in, how much you want an enjoyable game versus a strict Star Wars experience, and how much weight you give to sticking mainly to the movies versus all of Star Wars canon.

I am sure I would play the game just for what it is.  But massive Star Wars space battles would just be awesome.

Whatever mod is the best developed.  I want quality.  I prefer the era from the original movies or slightly after, like Empire at War.

There is no clear winner in "quality", it depends what kind of game style you are looking for.

There's Sins of a Galactic Empire (SoGE) which is a total conversion mod. That means they got rid of the factions in the base game, so everything is Star Wars. Before Rebellion it had the biggest number of factions, from the Clone Wars all the way to the Yuuzhan Vong. As a total conversion, it tries to stick to Star Wars canon as much as possible, with such things as strict scaling of ships, and combat feels very different with it, due to things like damage varying with range (So engaging Star Destroyers at point blank range actually makes a tactical difference). I don't play it a lot so I'm sure there's a lot I'm not mentioning.

The main other mod is Star Wars: Requiem. Its not a total conversion, so its more like Star Wars stuff added to the base Sins game. Basically it tries to keep the gameplay as close to Sins as possible while making it look and feel as much like the Star Wars movies as possible. It is only around the period of the galactic civil war, or the original movies, but it might move towards the clone wars as well with Rebellion.

I am getting errors when hitting apply for Requiem mod.

I am in Diplomacy and I press apply changes and get mini dump error?  I read FAQ but changing graphics did not work.

I am on Windows 7 64bit.

Is there an older version I can try?  I saw old downloads on sins.imperial.cc but all links are dead.

thanks

Do you have the most up to date version of Diplomacy (1.34)?

Yeah, that mod changed servers a month ago, I'll ask if they can be fixed.

I tried Diplomacy and reinstalled mod but I still get that error.

I reinstalled but it didn't work.

I will try old versions if they are uploaded.  Going to try other Star Wars mod too.
