Where's the menu items?

Newly Installed Software Products Do Not Show Up on Start8...

I moved to Windows 8 on my primary software development machine as soon as it was available and was thankful when Stardock came out with Start8 because the omission of the Start button for people like me with 40 or 50 (or more) titles installed have a more difficult problem trying to navigate the screen-wasting space of the Metro (excuse me, Modern) interface.

But then Windows Update crashed my machine hard, twice, and I had to rebuild from the ground floor.

Now none of the newly installed software products show up on the Start8 menu so the product is absolutely worthless!

Did I do something wrong or does Start8 only "see" products that are installed in a certain way?  I realize/imagine that I could manually add new menu items (maybe), but why should I have to do this?  If Start8 is what it is being sold as, then it should be capturing the installation of new software products on the system.

What can I do to resolve this?

It sounds like something may have been corrupted on your machine.

Normal applications will automatically show in Start8 regardless of if they were installed before or after Start8 was installed as long as they are installed in the start menu folders (I.e. the same as on Windows 7)

Are the applications not creating shortcuts under the standard OS start menu folders?

You can see what the folders are by right clicking on the All programs button and picking open (for user shortcuts) and open all users (for shared shortcuts).

The other thing to do is sign out and back in again and see if they show up then.

EDIT: I just double checked here by installing some applications and they correctly showed up in the all programs list.
