File problems on install of GalCiv2: Gold Edition

   Hey, I'm MatsukiMon.

I recently found my old copy of GalCiv2: Gold Edition, and decided to play it. So, I popped the first disc into my drive and began installing. Everything seemed fine, until it got to 54% and just stopped on the file "movie/Battleship.bik", at least, I think that was the one. Anyways, it gave me a message saying something like, "File missing error" or something? (Didn't catch it, and it wouldn't show up again). My disc has, like, one or two very minor scratches, from being lost; I know discs, these things are definitely not affecting the install.

So, if you could respond with any advice, it would be much appreciated.

   Sincerely, MatsukiMon

Not sure what could be the problem. Maybe the disc got corrupted somehow (unlikely) or your AV software is interfering with the installation (more likely). Even if it seems improbable, the scratches still could be root of the problem. So, what could you do? Well, I see three options:

1. Send a mail to support. They should be more able to handle your problem. Even if not, they can probably give you better advice than I am.

2. If you registered the game with Stardock, you should be able to download it with Impulse. Impulse is now owned by Gamestop, so I don't know, if you want to deal with them. There is also the slight possibility that Gamestop doesn't have the necessary information, which could lead to even more hassle.

3. Buy the Ultimate Edition. This is probably the most hassle-free option. You can download it directly from Stardock, don't require any discs for installation and the game is already fully updated. Even with the Gold Edition you would still need to use Impulse to get the patches.

I hope, that was helpful for you.

Minor scratches can cause a disc to be unreadable.  An easy way to find out would be to copy the contents of the disc to a folder on your HD.  If that fails to read the file then it is a damaged media issue.  If that worked then it will be something else, perhaps a lack of HD space on drive C, or antivirus upsetting it.

Actually, they copied just fine but still didn't install. It's okay, though, I was thinking of getting Ultimate for Christmas anyways.

Also, I have the case and both discs, but can't find the serial number? Where should that be? O_o Oh well.

   Thanks, everyone.
