Multiplayer Lag

So ive recently persuaded some friends to play Soase and begun to play online with them. The problem is ive been getting some strange lag effects. The lag is not affected by increased activity or whats on screen, it is an even, constant lag right from the start. It is most noticeable in ship movement and combat, a stuttering effect as well as a very slight delay on the interface.

My pc is more than capable of running the game, (i7, 12GB Ram, GTX560Ti) as are all of my friend's machines and when checked all of our pings are at 100 or less. We all have good internet speeds and I usually host games because I have high speed fiber optic.

Anyone know what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

while you are experiencing lag in game go to menu and networking tab.

Here you will get data of CPU load of every player and ping (network "quality").

My first guess would be that one of players has bad/slow internet connection....

I checked all cpu usage and pings all were at 3 or 4 and all players ping was in the range of 80-120 with a very occasional spike to 300 or more. What puzzled me was all players spiked simultaneously.

So there is a problem with ICO or whatever you are using....

I mean sometimes data packets can come trough (with good ping) but they are corrupted so they need to be resend which causes lag....

Have you tried playing with someone hosting other than yourself?

In any case, ping isn't the only issue...as an example, I live in an apartment with 10 other people, and occasionally some of the dingleberries I live with torrent....it doesn't affect my ping at all, but it does cause me to lag significantly, to the point of freezing entire games and thus I have to quit...

You should all check your download and upload speeds using an online checker, don't just go by ping...

I've tried hosting through direct connect and the constant stutter and other lag effects seem to have gone and it runs very smoothly. Also I have a 50mbps download and 15mbps upload almost entirely to myself so I don't think that's a problem. Seems I am having a problem only when I host through ICO. Find this odd since I have all necessary ports forwarded and the necessary exceptions in my firewall. Also I have played a game hosted by a friend with almost identical internet connection and got stuttering again.

Happy new year by the way :D

It could be an issue with alloy (are you using it or not?)  but even if it is (and that's unlikely) I wouldn't know how to help you....but, alloy would be an ICO only thing...

Stay away from the NVidia 310.xx drivers for that 560Ti too.  I have same vidcard and had to rollback to 306.97 .  Got huge stuttering/choppiness even on single player, on another PC as well with a 550Ti so it's definitely a driver issue.
