Galaxy Forge: Wormholes to prevent instant rush?

Does it make sense?

Hello everybody.

My friends and me wanted to prevent rushing other players in the beginning of a game.
So we created a 4 players universe where each player has his home planet connected to 3 planets and one of those planets is connected to a wormhole. The wormholes connect to the center of the universe where a lot of planets and asteroids can be found. This way, you would have to invent wormhole travel before expanding into the universe.

Playing with my friends this works as expected and it is quite fun to finally strike into the heavily fortiefied home systems through the wormholes.

But playing with AI, I am travelling through an empty universe until the wormholes behind which the AI bored itself to death.
It is only sending some scouts, so it definately has researched the wormhole tech.

Reading through several forum posts, AI seems to be able to use wormholes with larger fleet as well.

We've tried replacing the wormholes with stars, but because you can travel from one star to any other, the center universe is not needed to be explored to attack other players.

So my questions are:

  1. Do you know why my AI does not want to expant through the wormhole (is it maybe an issue of ai difficulty)?
  2. Is it possible to limit star-to-star jumps to defined stars?

Thanks in advance,
Tundratier

Hmm, The AI does not usually rush, so maybe try and AI or 2 in the center. The AI will usually take a fleet to another occupied system. Maybe the empty system is not threatening enough.

You can declare a truce amungst human players till the AI in the middle is defeated, then kick each others asses.

If you use Galaxy Forge, you can make phase lanes from a planet in 1 system to a planet in another system. This will also be a 'fast lane' like the speed from star to star, but with more connection control.

You can also remove any connections from the star to that systems planets, though the AI may jump and sit there.

Thanks for your answer.

The idea of the map is, that you have to do research first before beeing able to expand to different star systems. I've tried the direct phase line like you described and it is as fast as a star to star travel, but sadly does not need any research to travel.

Placing the AI into the center won't work as well, because we want to play it mixed with human and AI and the center should ne a neutral place.

The AI just develops its four systems to the maximum and then sits there only scouting through the wormhole.
As I replaced the wormholes with suns, the AI sent colonizing fleets to the other star systems.

Do you know a mod which what star-to-star travel can be restricted to maybe only the closest star?

What difficulty is the AI set at?  A higher difficulty setting may help.  Also, setting the AI type to "aggresive" may help nudge them into attacking.  I've played several games in multi-star maps with AI and as far as I've ever seen they have no problem sending fleets through wormholes or from star to star in order to attack.

I am currently experimenting with a map.

I have 6 stars, 2 players at each outer star, empty middle.

You can add phase lanes in Galaxy Forge but even the stars that do not have one, you can still jump to. There is a phase lane setting which may override the auto jump. So I will add the lane to the star but change its settings. SpawnProbability is 1, I will try 0 or Wormhole type.

I would also like to know what is possible here. Post back in a bit.

EDIT: Fail and Fail

Only thing I can see is deleting all connections from stars to planets making them inaccessible, and using planet to planet system jumps.

I like putting the star rings on top of one another and making a real 3d map with loads of planet to planet system jumps
