Several Issues and Suggestions About Start8

Hello everyone,

This is my first post in Stardock. I purchased Start8 from Stardock last night and felt it's pretty convenient so far. However, I have some issues and suggestions about Start8.

 

Issues:

1. The "windows flag" shown on desktop is white by default, I wonder if I can change the color to be the same as my windows 8 color.

 

2. The color of background of Start8 start menu can be changed and fit to the color of my desktop taskbar. On the other hand, the color of texts shown on the start menu like "documents, pictures, music, computer, control panel, etc." is still white by default, but I cannot change it to other colors.

 

3. There is an icon called "All Programs" on the start menu of each windows version as well as Start8. When I click "All Program", it shows me the applications installed in my computer. For example, in Windows 7, I can copy the application Microsoft Office Word from start menu by right clicking the application and selecting the option "copy." After that, I can paste the application to my desktop, and then drag the application to my taskbar or select option "pin to taskbar." However, Start8 does not allow me to do so.

 

Suggestions:

If you can help me solve the three issues above, I will be happy with Start8. If I get more suggestions, I will add them to the post in the future.

 

Two more quesitons:

1. Can the current Start8 purchase-version ($4.99) be kept for lifetime?

2. If there are more features added to Start8 in the future, can I get free updates?

1) You are able to use your own image for the start button, but white is the colour used for the default flag.  If this were to use your Windows 8 colour it would basically be invisible against the taskbar which is also using the Windows 8 colour.

2) Currently the only adjustment for text colour is to flip it to black when the background colour is too light.  This happens when you pick white / light grey as your OS colour / Start8 background colour.

3) Drag & drop is implemented in the 1.09 betas which can be downloaded from this forum.  A 1.1 release with these things enabled should come this month.

On your questions :

If you purchase Start8 for $4.99 you get access to all updates to Start8 in the 1.x series.  So if you purchased Start8 1.0 on release day you would still get free upgrades until we released a theoretical 2.0.  At that point you would be free to continue to use and install your Start8 1.x, but you wouldn't be able to install 2.x without possibly paying an upgrade fee.  This is how we handle all our standalone applications.  Some apps never charge upgrade fees, others do.

As you can see we have 1.09/1.1 in beta currently with enhancements and I would like to say we are typically responsive to user suggestions.
