Galaxy Forge issues RE: Entrenchment

Nothing I do makes my galaxy forge files appear in game

Just another SoaSE player having problems getting their handcrafted Galaxy forge maps to appear in Sins.

Here is some info you might need to figure out what it is I am doing wrong.

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium
Entrenchment version: 1.05
Galaxy Forge version: 1.05

It is just one map I want to play. I initially created it in the map designer in game. and then modified it in Galaxy forge.

The original file is playable in Sin without any problems. But if I Modify it in Galaxy Forge and then try to play it under it's new saved name it doesn't appear in any lists.

I have placed it in this directory
C:\Users\Cmd. Strange\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

but have placed it in every map designer and galaxy directory that installing Sins creates.
I have also added the modified file to the Entrenchment galaxy.manifest file.

Still nothing.

I never encountered this problem on my old system and making maps and playing them was a breeze but now I cannot for the life of me play anything I make in galaxy forge.

Somebody please help.

I would get notepad++ and load in both the original map designer map and the new edited version,
go to Plugins -> Compare or [ALT + d]

look for any odd entries

Other than that, it sounds like you did everything right.

just incase you missed something, harpo's good ole standby instructions

http://soase.x90x.net/?i=downloads/Maps/Install-Maps.html here is a portion

There is a second type of map which SHOULD be placed in the mapdesigner folder, you can tell if it is by the eighth line reads randomizeStartingPositions TRUE', if this line is FALSE then it is a galaxyforge map and could be in an older map format. the current map format version is 3 this can be seen in line two of the file. if the map is a version 0,1 or 2 then the map updater will make it playable in current versions and expansions.

The differences between map versions 0,1 & 2 were only the addition of ONE line near the start of the file, BUT mapversion3 has 5 new lines PER PLANET/player & template and 5 changed lines per planet/player & template and WILL CAUSE THE minidump/freeze curse if you just change the version number.

most likely it has a different mapversion # in second line of the changed file, for entrenchment 1.01+/diplomacy 1.### and sins 1.16+ the CORRECT mapversion # IS 3, but it is a good idea to also check that EACH of the planets has both quickstart AND normalstart as well as the map as the galaxyforge versions BEFORE 3 did NOT put the normalstart and quickstart lines in. I did create a map updater to update mapversion 0,1& 2 to mapversion 3, and also extended it to the rebellion map version (4) with the changes for rebellion maps

Well I have discovered that the map in question is a version1 map.

But I cannot use the map updater because I cannot update my version of Sins.

Is there a stand alone updater available to update Sins?

my map updater IS a stand alone utility, and from what I remember the entrenchment map version from entrenchment 1.01 IS mapversion 3, and if it informs you that it can not find the sins version it wants, just re-name(or delete) the targetsinsver.txt in the folder with the map updater and run again.

Okay now Galaxy Forge simply won't show my maps.

It starts up fine, even shows the goofy default map with a star and two planets. But when I load a map. Any map, one I've made or one that came with the game the maps ?loads? but I see no stars no planets nothing. Just a blank black background.

Any help?

there is only one way to tell between map designer maps and galaxyforge maps and that is the line that reads

useRandomGenerator FALSE         (this is the GalaxyForge map type)

useRandomGenerator TRUE           (this is the MapDesigner map type)

the line should be around the 26th to 30th line of the map file

unfortunately the maps use the SAME extension (ie .Galaxy), but NEED to live in the correct folder name based upon the useRandomGenerator line.

hope this info helps you get the maps working
