Multitasking

So I just bought sins of a solar empire and I love it, but I find the multitasking to be a bit challenging for me (keeping tack of upgrades for planets and ships and whatnot).  Do you have any tips on how to keep track of everything when playing?

Try to come up with some use for the Empire tree you find most effective. I for example disable all those autopin options and just leave planets on their so I can quickly select any of my worlds to order planet upgrade or most importantly ship build orders as I'm managing a fleet battle elsewhere.
