Difficulty installing stardock software, short question, thanks for help!

I switched machines, redownloaded my Sins-install from stardock central, everything is fine -- but during the install, I hit Cancel by mistake, now I attempt to do it again, and I cannot get past this step: the install wizard asks me if I am sure I want to Uninstall all Sins components. I've said "yes" about 4 times now, and apparently I've uninstalled everything successfully these 4 times (??), but I cannot seem to tell my install file / wizard that I am actually interested in installing, NOT uninstalling.

What must I do? This is windows 8, should that matter.

THANK YOU!

If you have CCleaner run it. It'll take out whatever files were left after you tried the first install. Redownload the Sins-install after deleting the first one and run it being careful to hit run not cancel. Hope this helps.

If all else fails, there's ODNT Zapper.

ODNT Zapper wasn't designed for games. It's for...ODNT/components.

IIRC, ODNT Zapper is only for removing customizing software, not SD games.

Obviously, that is not the case.

If it still shows as installed, use Revo uninstaller set on moderate, let it uninstall and scan for leftovers, then delete only the items marked in bold text.

Or....You could try doing a search and manually removing everything related to the game.

Thank you for these replies. Just to make sure I am understanding correctly (I am NOT particularly computer affine) are you all saying I should purchase a 3rd party software (ODNT, Revo, or CCleaner), install that, run it, and follow the instructions that software may give me in regard to Sins? Will these software items, once I install them, be understandable to me in the sense that I can use them to "hunt" for the things I want gone (e.g. I type in "Sins", etc.) and it removes what it needs removed, or is it the case that I get this software, run it, and this software does a "global" check of not-quite-uninstalled things, hopefully amongst them Sins, but maybe it finds other things too? I ask the last question because I am a bit afraid it might, in the hands of an unexperienced person such as myself, delete something I would rather it not (but I lack the knowledge to differentiate).

Finally, I ask: is there some "fault" in the Uninstaller of Sins that I need to worry about? Are you also saying that I should delete that file (the Sins installer I DLed from Stardock), re-download it, and try again?

Thank you very much

First, it isn't a bad idea to try downloading the installer from the store and trying again. Failing that.....

No need to purchase anything, Revo has a free version.  http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

If Sins is showing in Add/Remove Programs,it will also appear in Revo and you can just locate it in the Revo interface and select uninstall, it will first run the programs own uninstaller, then will scan for leftovers. When the scan is complete, it will first list leftover registry keys. Delete ONLY those marked in Bold. There is a search box in Revo to help locate it if not showing.

Then it will scan for leftover files and folders. Since you want a clean install (not keep any data) you can safely delete all those.

If you don't feel comfortable doing this, you should contact [email protected] and perhaps they can fix you up with a purge file for the game.

Good luck.

Thank you for this invaluable help, Wizard. Sadly, I'm still having problems, although

- I just DLed Revo, it found Sins, I used the uninstaller, it uninstalled, found leftovers (2 in bold, 11 others in next step), I deleted all of those

- Reran Revo, it no longer shows Sins

- Deleted the Sins-Setup I had downloaded, and re-DLed from Stardock

- Clicking that new Sins setup file opens the wizard, which again asks me if I want to uninstall Sins, not install it.

Something seems to be broken. Can I do anything else? (Revo does not list Sins anymore). Must I use the last resort and contact stardock?

thank you

Absolutely. Contacting Support is your best course of action at this point.

Don't think of Support as a "last resort" think of the forums as the "front line" ;)
