Visuals Issues

User Interface, Graphics, and Map Display

So I've played through two games in tiny galaxies, and noticed a few graphical issues that I haven't seen mentioned yet.

First, though, I'd like to echo what many have already said: beautiful game thus far. I am amazed that it will be better.

Loading/Menu Flicker:
On game load, after the intimidating "loading" screen, I often get a green flash. Then, after the "THIS IS AN ALPHA" note, another green flash.

Map Issues:
On the first turn of the game, I was able to see a dotted red line along the edge of the map where the Drengin territory touched the galaxy's boundary (even though they were hidden by fog of war). This told me right where to find 'em, mwahaha!! But that's probably not a good thing, ultimately.

Also, along one edge of the map, the hex outlines weren't highlighting on mouseover. Everywhere else the mouseover worked fine (and I really like that the outline glows the color corresponding to the territory's owner).

Colony Issue:
I had a colony texture not load.

Research and Tool Tip Issue:
I know that much of what is in the research screen is all placeholder text, but some of the text is forced to wrap even though it is one word, resulting in a few letters of the word split onto the next line. I am guessing this won't be an issue when the placeholder text is removed, but having a rigidly fixed width might cause wrapping issues.

I had a colony texture not load also.

There were no attributes on the planet and it was class 9

I've also had a colony map texture not load, though the actual build-able tiles and bonuses were still there so at least I didn't lose out on a nice class 15 planet :D

I also noticed a few typos on the ideology screen, bread instead of breed, etc.

Another issue I've noticed, though I don't think it is a bug, is that when the camera is at a tilt (even slight), the "near" objects (those at the bottom of the screen) will remain 3D longer than the "far" objects as you zoom out. Conversely, they will become 3D sooner than the "far" objects as you zoom in. This is somewhat confusing at first, but now that I understand it, I don't mind it. But I'm not sure whether I like it or not, yet.

I pulled the image below from Gaunathor's "Yet another first impressions post"

I noticed on my latest game that when zoomed out fully, the dust clouds and nebulae often flicker and change density (sometimes darker, sometimes completely transparent).

I've also had ship icons change somewhat arbitrarily (I think after a "found lost defender" anomaly event), after which time all the colony ships (both in my civ and the other) switched to the defender's icon.

End of trumpeter87's quote

I've noticed that too.
