How do you transfer population between planets/colonies?

I played my first game of Galactic Civilizations III today, great game so far. I colonized Mars and started building research labs on it, but my population dropped to 0, my bad. I built a colony ship on Earth and sent it to Mars, but the population stayed at 0, so how do you transfer population between planets/colonies?

In the previous games, loading up a colony ship (or troop transport) with population and sending it to the other planet would do the trick, but it doesn't seem to work in GalCiv 3 yet.

I've sent a fully loaded colony ship to one of my colonies, but it didn't increase the local population. When it tried to "eject" the ship, afterwards, the game was acting as if the ship was empty. So, in effect, I just lost 2.5b people.

We believe that there is an issue where the "eject ship" command was incorrectly linked to "eject cargo" protocol. This resulted in your cargo being jettisoned into space.
