Music Review: Jason Aldean "Burnin' It Down"

Jason Aldean

Burnin’ It Down

Album: Old Boots, New Dirt

Year: 2014

Jason Aldean and his girlfriend have sex all night in the stiff “Burnin’ It Down.”

A sliding guitar opens the single, setting a pacing tone.  He gives her a kiss on the lips and tells her how much he missed her today. She runs her hand down his shirt and lets her index finger slide through his plaid shirt. He thinks he wants to lift up her shirt over her head and unzip her jeans right now. She stays in his arms and smiles at him, moving her finger around on his stomach and hips. He pulls her closer to him, pressing her body against his. (“You slip your finger through the tear in my t-shirt/You stirrin' up dirty in the back of my mind/You keep on flirtin', cause you know that it's workin'/You stuck in my head girl writing the lines/Couldn't sing this song without you if I tried/Let's light it up like it's our last night.”)

In the chorus, the stereo is playing Alabama’s “Feels So Right” album for the second time in a row. On the counter, there are two room temperature bottles of Jack Daniels. He rolls over to her and plays with her breast. He sings her favorite love song to her. She puts her arms around him and they begin to have sex again. (“We're just hanging around/Burnin' it down/Sippin' on some cold Jack Daniel's/Jammin' to some old Alabama with you baby/Laying right here naked in my bed/I'm just doing my thing/You love it when I sing/Say it makes you feel like an angel/We about to get a little tangled up right about now/So girl let's keep burnin' it down/Burnin' it down, burnin' it down.”)

He could wake up tomorrow morning and have sex with her again. He likes the feel of her skin on his own and the sounds she makes. (“Girl when you want it/You know that I'm on it/You know that I love lovin' up on you/Let's hit the switch and let our shadows dance/And light it up like it's our last chance.”)

In the second chorus, he adds that after they have sex, they talk. She wonders what their kids will look like. He tells her how he felt when he first saw her. (“We're just hanging around/Burnin' it down/Sippin' on some cold Jack Daniel's/Jammin' to some old Alabama with you baby/Laying right here dreamin' in my bed/I'm just doing my thing/You love it when I sing/Say it makes you feel like an angel/We about to get a little tangled up right about now/So girl let's keep burnin' it down/Burnin' it down, burnin' it down/Burnin' it down, burnin' it down.”)

In the bridge, he says he’s not the least bit tired. She doesn’t have to work tomorrow and he can just call in. (“I wanna rock it all night/Baby girl will you rock it out with me?/I wanna crawl through the dark/Just to feel your heartbeat against me/I wanna rock it all night/Baby girl will you rock it out with me?/I wanna crawl through the dark/Just to feel your heartbeat against me.”)

The first chorus is sung again.

In the final section, he repeats some of the bridge to end the single. (“I wanna rock it all night/Baby girl will you rock it out with me?/I wanna crawl through the dark/Just to feel your heartbeat against me.”)

Aldean’s frigid vocals start with the lips and then the breasts, and together they take off their clothes, leading to the bedroom every single time. There is no kink or props. A wild night would be on the family room floor.

The  coarse  “Burnin’ It Down”  means blasting the headphones and pretending the parents are moving furniture instead.
