Music Review: Kim Cesarion "Undressed"

Kim Cesarion

Undressed

Album: Undressed

Year: 2013

Kim Cesarion lusts for a woman he meets in the club in the inconsistent           “Undressed.”

Nonchalant whistling and tumultous drums open the single, setting an obvious tone. He puts his hand on table. The people sitting there give him a look and he says he just needs a minute. All the color has gone out of the room. He isn’t in any condition to drive. (“I feel hazy/Why is everything black and white?/I feel dizzy/Like my fucking head is full of dynamite/Jump in my Mercedes/But it isn't quite driving right.”)

In the pre-chorus, he hasn’t consumed any alcohol whatsoever. The place is packed. However, one woman catches his eye. (“I don't get it, I'm not drunk/A million people in the place and there you are/And I was like.”)

In the  chorus, he says she misprounounce his name or say Bob. He doesn’t care. He wants to sleep with her. There’s a sadness to her and he wants to make her feel better. Seeing only some of her cleavege and leg is not enough. He wants to see her entire body. (“Hi my name is/Whatever you call me/So let's get undressed/Cause you look a little lonely/I'll make you scream, I'll make you laugh/Cover your body with my autograph/So let's get undressed/Cause I wanna see you naked.”)

Next to him, a girl is talking about her ex-boyfriend. He’s already learned he 1) cheated, 2) he and her roommate had sex multiple times at her apartment and 3) her girlfriend friend apologized but she won’t forgive her. He is so over the girl’s telenovela life. It seems, though, the DJ has been playing the same song for the past hour. Time is speeding up yet slowing down at the same time. He keeps staring at the woman to maintain his balance. (“I hear nothing/Except this beat, that never ends/Some girl talking/Sounds like fucking white noise in my head/Everything's bending/You're the only focus in my lens.”)

The pre-chorus and chorus are sung again.

In the bridge, she is on his couch. He unclasps another button and more of her nipple begins to show. He thought it was going to end up dreaming about what could’ve happened. However, it turned real. (“It was just another Friday night/Then I saw you it was stupid I got stupefied/Now I got you here/I'm unwrapping you slowly/Another button and some more of you is showing/And it all started with/Hi my name is, whatever you call me.”)

An extended chorus ends the single. (“Hi my name is/Whatever you call me/So let's get undressed/Cause you look a little lonely/I'll make you scream, I'll make you laugh/Cover your body with my autograph/So let's get undressed/Cause you're driving me crazy yeah/So let's get undressed/Hey/Cause I wanna see you naked.”)

Ceasrion’s  varied  vocals trudge through the verses. However, his falsetto picks up the song right away and then it’s back to the monotonous verses. It makes it hard to believe that later on, he’s going to be high-fiving his friends about getting laid. It’s clear in the verses he’s taking his empty sex  very seriously which takes the fun right out of it.

The  tolerable “Undressed,” in its need to be seen as suave and above it all, won’t stop thinking and repeatedly tries to impress.
