Would something like a hero ship or champion ship work?

Something like a space-equal of what goes into LH and SK, with an upgrade "path" and maybe the ability to upgrade hull points?

Basically it'd go into the galaxy, explore anomalies and other things for weapons upgrades, then get ... stuff to upgrade. It would have an upgradeable hull as well - maybe after x points you'd get a bigger hull and you can upgrade the hull like any other ship?

I agree I always thought that how this game upgraded its ships were weak next to other strategy games. I would like to see ability increase as you Kevel up like civilization or sins of a solar empire. And great people. And citizens on the planets with a colony screen like the city screen in civilization.

here's an idea what if whenever you researched a new hull size your empire recieved a unique ship that could be built (limit 1) or just as a free ship around your homeworld

this ship would have a couple of unique modules that you wouldent normally be able to get
