Thinking Out Loud

Album: x

Year: 2014

Ed Sheeran shares his intimate feelings for his girlfriend in the lovely          “Thinking Out Loud.”

An adoring piano opens the single, setting a fervent tone. She says she’s afraid of getting older. She won’t be the same and would’ve changed. He tells her his feelings for her are a constant. He will help her with her walker and guide her, if needed. He admits he’s scared she’ll forget him. (“When your legs don't work like they used to before/And I can't sweep you off of your feet/Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love?/Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks?/And darling I will be loving you till we're 70/And baby, my heart could still fall as hard at 23/And I'm thinking about how.”)

In the pre-chorus, he says everyone has their own unique romance story to tell. They focus on the moment they first met. However, for me, it’s continous. Every day he finds something new that he loves about her. (“People fall in love in mysterious ways/Maybe just the touch of a hand/Well me, I fall in love with you every single day/I just wanna tell you I am.”)

In the chorus, he takes her hand and entwines it in hers. He leans his head towards to hers and kisses her long and hard. She rests his head on chest. He puts her hand over his heart and asks her if she can feel it. She answers, yes, it’s pumping. (“So honey, now, take me into your loving arms/Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars/Place your head on my beating heart, I'm thinking out loud/And maybe we found love right where we are.”)

He says in about ten or so more years, his hairline will begin to recede. He’ll have bald patches on his head. His fanbase will have diminished and his source of income will be renuion tours. His hands will have arthitis in them and playing the guitar will be painful. However, he believes their love will last. Her personality will still be the same. She will always be in her 20s to him. (“When my hair's all but gone and my memory fades/And the crowds don't remember my name/When my hands don't play the strings the same way/I know you will still love me the same/Cause honey your soul could never grow old, it's evergreen/And baby, your smile's forever in my mind and memory/And I'm thinking about how.”)

In the pre-chorus, he thinks that love is a part of something much larger than the both of them. He has some bad habits that are hard to break and that she will be able to live with them. (“People fall in love in mysterious ways/And maybe it's all part of a plan/Well I'll just keep on making the same mistakes/Hoping that you'll understand.”)

           The chorus is sung twice.

In the final section, he adds their romance works for them. It doesn’t need to be grand or public for it to matter. (“Oh baby, we found love right where we are/And we found love right where we are.”)

Sheeran’s tender vocals divulge his innermost emotions without fear. He wants her to know that he cares and he’s in it for the long haul. He isn’t telling her what she wants to hear. It’s sweet and heartfelt, truly the real deal.

The  pretty  “Thinking Out Loud” is thoroughly crushable.
