Music Review: Roxette "Joyride"

Roxette

Joyride

Album: Joyride

Year: 1991

Perle Gessle  decides to be impulsive in the  carefree  “Joyride.”

Part of the chorus opens the single. He recalls hearing the young woman’s voice, beckoning him to have some fun with her. It leads to a gutsy guitar, setting an adenturuous tone. (“Hello, you fool, I love you./C'mon join the joyride .”)

He was jingling his keys in his pockets, getting ready to run some errands. He figures he’ll try to meet someone today. If it feels right, he’ll follow his heart. Otherwise, he’ll continue on. His neighbor waves hi to him. She races to him and asks him how he’s doing. He tells her his plans for the day. She tells him life’s too short and says he has to join her today. (“I hit the road out of nowhere/I had to jump in my car

and be a rider in a love game/Following the stars, don't need no book of wisdom/I get no money talk at all/She has a train going downtown, she's got a club on the moon and she's telling all her secrets/In a wonderful balloon/Oh she's the heart of the funfair, she's got me whistling her private tune. “)

In the pre-chorus, the day is endless with her. They have a special connection no one else can touch. (“And it all begins where it ends,  and she's all mine, my magic friend.”)

In the chorus, he gets into her car and waits for his life to change. (“She says: Hello, you fool, I love you/C'mon join the joyride “)

He says she inspires him and he gets her to think, even it’s for less than a minutes. He could be with her forever. It’s how they bond. (“She's a flower, I can paint her, she's a child of the sun/We're a part of this together, could never turn around and run./Don't need no fortune teller to know where my lucky love belongs oh no.”)

A second pre-chorus is sung. (“Cos it all begins again when it ends,

and we're all magic friends.”)

An extended chorus is sung. (“She says: Hello, you fool, I love you/C'mon join the joyride/Be a joyrider/She says: Hello, you fool, I love you/C'mon join the joyride/ Be a joyrider.”)

In the bridge, she promises a day of fun that he’ll never forget. (“I take you on a skyride, a feeing like you're spellbound./The sunshine is a lady who ROX you like a baby. “)

An extended chorus is sung to end the single. (“She says: Hello, you fool, I love you/C'mon join the joyride/Be a joyrider/Hello, hello, you fool, I love you/C'mon join the joyride.”)

Gessle and Fredriksson complement each other. He’s serious but lets loose in the presence of his crush. Fredriksson is wild and unpredictable. No one is going to be able to say no to her.

The  lighthearted  “Joyride” lives life as it pleases.
