It’s Not Over

Album: Daughtry

Year: 2006

Chris Daughtry tries to get back together with his ex-girlfriend in the  solid              “It’s Not Over.”

A pondering guitar opens the single, setting an aware tone. At least he has a steady job. It pays his bills. He has a great group of friends. However, nothing can erase the hole in him. It’s been there since he broke up with his ex-girlfriend. The joy he had with her, though, is missing. She has a piece of him that no one else has. (“I was blown away what could I say /It all seemed to make sense/You've taken away everything/And I can't do without/I try to see the good in life/But good things in life are hard to find/blow it away, blow it away, can we make this something good.”)

In the chorus, he decides to contact his ex. He’ll start with a text and ask her how she’s doing. Their relationship faced some major obstacles. Looking back, he was selfish and not considering her point of view. He has gone on dates but he feels nothing. He thinks about her and what she’s doing. He wants to work things out and solve their problems. (“Well I'll try to do it right this time around/Let's start over/I'll try to do it right this time around/It's not over/There's a part of me that's dead and in the ground/This love is killing me, but you're the only one/It's not over.”)

He can’t pretend he doesn’t love her any longer. The regret is haunting him. Neither are addressing the issue between them. He believes there is so much they could be doing. Both are emotional and upset without each other .However, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to break down her walls. Some of his friends have told him to let go. However, she’s (“Taken all I could take and I cannot wait/We’re wasting to much time/Being strong holding on/Can't let it bring us down /My life with you means everything /So I won't give up that easily/Blow it away, blow it away/Can we make this something good/Cause it’s all misunderstood.”)

                The chorus is sung again.

In the bridge, he believes they have something special and rare. He needs her to stop questioning her emotions and act on them. (“We can't let this get away/Let it out, let it out/Don't get caught up in yourself/Let it out.”(

                The chorus is sung again.

An edited chorus ends the single. (“Let's start over/It’s not over/This love is killing me/But you're the only one/It's not over.”)

Daughtry has been thinking and thinking. He has wondering what to say and how to go about it. Finally, he just does it. He’s trying really hard not to push. He knows exactly what he wants.

The  purposeful  “It’s Not Over” is not giving up the fight.
