Music Review: Chris Brown & Tyga "Ayo"

Chris Brown & Tyga

Ayo

Album: Fan of a Fan 2

Year: 2015

Tyga only cares about money and how many women he get with his wealth in the starlit “Ayo.”

A nameless woman coos “I need you” eight times over the chilled synths, setting a  gleaming tone.

In the chorus, Chris Brown is cruising in the car with several women. He notes that their hair is natural. He adds he has tons of money and he likes to flaunt it. By the time he drops the women off, he’ll already have forgotten their names. (“We poppin' like ayo/All my bitches got real hair chilling with the top down/Screaming like ayo/I'mma take her ass down when she bring her friend around/Fuck ‘em both like ayo/I'm a bougie ass ***** left the roof at home/We popping like ayo, ayo, ayo/But don't be acting like I need you.”)

Tyga says he’s all about money. If any the women want something from him, they will have to do something for him first. He doesn’t think about their feelings. The women think they have a chance of getting to know him. However, they won’t even close. He wants them only for sex. (“Ahhh! Aye babe this my new shit/I'm the black Richie Rich with the roof missing/If it don't make dollars it don't make sense/Z, wake up like I gotta get it/And I got an engine full of trunk space/I get money three ways, fucking bitches three ways/7 different foreigns plus she no hablé/But I make that bitch walk for some cheesecake/Yeah, I'm the coldest *****, icy/Looking in the mirror like I wish I can be me/She too into me, I'm more into money/My hobby's her body, that *****”s my lobby/I'mma eat it, I'mma eat it/I don't lie, hope my dick's, too conceited/Uh, told her she's my wife for the weekend/But don't be acting like I need you cause we poppin' like.”)

              Brown sings the chorus again.

Brown also takes the second verse. He looks down upon those who do not have luxury cars. He doesn’t have any respect for his friend’s wives, either. Marriage means nothing to him. While he was in rehab, it made him even more wild. The women asks how he’s doing and if he feels all right. However, he knows her husband is keeping an eye on him. (“I'm in a Rolls, you don't roll right/My chain shine brighter than a strobe light/I'm tryna fuck Coco, this don't concern Ice/If I motorboat, she gon' motorbike/A ***** ain't worried about nothin'/Rehabilitation just had me worried about fucking/Money, decision-making only worried about stunting/She worried about me, her ***** worried about cuffing/I wanna see her body (body)/She said get inside of me/I wanna feel you baby (yeah)/Just bring the animal right out of me/We loving, she love it/Specially when I go down on her/Now we fucking, she thugging/Getting loud (cause we poppin' like).”

               Brown sings the chorus again.

In the final verse, he says the women obey every word he says. Tyga chips in his two cents and manages to get a two decent pop culture references in. Though, Kanye West mentioned Apollonia in a much clever way. He plays off on the word outcast as well as the group’s name and album. (“Huh, look, alright/Now I can spot your bitch from a mile away/Valentine in that *****, it's a holiday (Uh, you losing money, I win mills, Dr. J/She going to follow my lead, Simon Says)/Paper, paper, I'm riding Scrapers in California/Car smelling like ammonia, we got that stank on us (Never been an Outkast that stank on ya/From the ghetto but my bitch like Apollonia)/We in the hood, tatted like a Mexican/Car too fast, give a fuck about pedestrians (And my section less ******, more lesbians)/Got your bitch, I'm that ***** (Yeah we poppin' like).”)

            Brown sings the chorus again.

In the final section, Tyga says the song is absolutely awesome. (“This that fly shit, king shit only/Drop top, no roof - ahhh!”)

Brown and Tyga make an excellent team. They play off each other well and let each other share the spotlight. Their real-life friendship shows through. The content is to be expected, though. Brown sees woman as objects and inferior to him, nothing more. Tyga churns out the usual wish-fulfillment. The beat is far better and sweeter than either deserve. It’s been kissed by stars and floated unto the earth, imbued with its sparkle. It’s unfortunate the beat got seduced by the wrong crowd.

To my dismay, the boisterous  “Ayo” should get the car radios blaring, just in time for summer.
