Question about Game Pacing Settings for our Devs and Founders..

Is the setting which sets the pacing on Technology global? What I mean is if I set it to less than normal, say 'slow' will that setting affect ALL races (Altarian, Drengin, ect) including the player or is it player only?

If i set the pacing to slow I would expect everyone to be also moving slower through their respective tech trees. This actually would be a very very good thing when playing some of the largest maps, say Excessive and Insane.

Also can we tweak the planets setting? I like 'uncommon' habitability and it was perfect pre patch 2. Now they are appearing like they did on 'common'.

Thanks!

This should be global affecting all players AI and human.  Appears, to work that way in game as well.

However, keep abundant where it is ;)

I am thinking it should end up as a set of sliders instead of a few steps of settings on a list.  It seems to be such a subjective thing.  If we had a bank of sliders like an equalizer display and they had markers saying "deluge", "abundant", "common" "rare" "Where'd they go?" then we could nudge and adjust to our hearts content.

Maybe there could be some for clustering and minimum distances between stars, and other factors.  A small wall of sliders to geek out and play with!

It can't be that much harder on the map generator to deal with a more granular and human-chosen set of inputs.  As long as the number ranges are kept to near-reasonable values, numbers are numbers.  "Turn up the treble on that map and give me lots of bass in the stars.  Now, that's my very own custom map!" Save profile as "My Galaxy" and make it the default.

Think of it as a Galaxy Designer.  It could have a window that gave you a sample of what that galaxy would look like on a minimap.

My biggest problem with the setting terminology is it's not relative.  If Habitable Planets are set "Rare", and Extreme planets are set to "Abundant", then you end up with like a 1:1 ratio between the two.

To the poster that liked "Uncommon" in 5.1, then you should feel right at home on "Rare" on 5.2 for Habitable planets.

Resources Spread Concerns

First, I don't really have a problem with the resource distribution being uneven, but it has other potential effects that should be considered.

Antimatter only spawns around blackholes, which makes it the rarest in most cases.  If you add a ton of blackholes to the map you can increase it, but most people won't. Blackholes above "Occasional" is a bit silly looking.

Elerium spawns in/around Nebulae. And you did such a good job on making nebulae look great, that we want lots of nebulae(okay, I do). This makes Elurium a bit more common.

Durantium. Yeah...

These three are the main concern, as they will be the weapon related resources. If you were to not have any antimatter, then you may avoid missiles all together.

A part of me likes that your empire is shaped by the available resources. It's a similar situation to strategic resources in many a Civ title(which were done well, imo).

The other part of me wonders what happens to a game of rock, paper, scissors...if say...you forget the scissors.
