25 Turn Challenge!

Behold a glorious challenge to prove yourself worthy to Lord Kona! Let's see who can make the biggest baddest empire in a mere 25 turns! It is both a challenge for the bragging rights as well as a education session for those who might struggle early game. The prize will be a dinner at Lord Kona's personal table.

I will provide a save game for everybody to use, on which you then play 25 turns, and then you can come brag here about your glorious empire.

About the Galaxy:

For this game we will be using a medium galaxy with 3 opponents. We will be playing as the Terran Alliance since that is the most popular faction overall. You can find the settings for the galaxy here.

 Instructions:

0. Make sure you are on the 1.02 opt in! (the save file is from 1.01, works for me, but let me know if i should make a new one)

1. Turn off mods if you use any, for the purpose of the challenge everybody needs to play the same game.

2. Download this save file. Place it in your Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\Saves folder.

3. Start the game, load up the save called "25 TURN CHALLANGE"

4. Play for 25 turns, stop when the turn counter on the top right says 26.

5. Save your game, take a few screenshots of your empire.

6. Post the following info here:

-Screenshot of your empire.

-How many Colonies you have.

-How many Starbases and shipyards you have.

-How many Technologies you have researched.

-How many Ships you have.

-your faction power.

-A description of what you did. (try to be specific)

-your save file if you want, so others can bask in the glory that is your empire.

Rules:

The only rules are: no mods, no console commands and got to use the save file provided. Do whatever you want besides that, you can use exploits, bugs, overpowered stuff, anything.

Good Luck and Have Fun :D

I'm reasonably certain that this is unnecessary since you're distributing a save game; if I'm not mistaken, save games are unaffected by any mods which were not active at the time that the game was created.

I just wanted to be safe rather then sorry with the mods. I doubt it's needed myself but you never know.

My first attempt:

-7 colonies

-1 starbase, 1 shipyard

-7 technologies

-4 ships (2 scouts, survey, constructor)

-42 faction power.

I started of with buying a second scout, sending all my 3 ships toward a different star to scout, researched interstellar travel for the +1 move. Bought a factory on Earth and set it to 75% production 25% research. Bought 2 colony ships after that and kept scouting. Colonizing planets as i came across them.

Researched medium ships, universal translator, and then started to make my way into the approval tree. Picked up benevolent colony ship and free class 10 planet.

Build 2 factories on most my new colonies on 100% manufacturing, then switched them to 50% research/manufacturing and started research labs, except 1 for money instead. Started to make research labs on earth too after about 4 factories, which i feel might have been a mistake.

Switched to building constructors when there were on longer nearby planets, but the AI was already snatching up resources. then reached the turn limit.

I played sub-optimal, but here are my attempt stats:

  • 14 Colonies
  • 7 star bases and 4 shipyards
  • 14 Technologies
  • 5 ships (1 survey, 2 scouts, 1 sensor ship, 1 constructor)
  • Faction power 58

First i designed a sensor ship, a fast no range colonizer and a no range constructor. Rush build a colonizer. Send the standard ships in three different directions. Started research on interstellar travel. Rush build factory on Earth. Global govern on 100% Manufacturing and 100% social. Earth local govern on 100% research.

Rush build the sensor ship, send the rush build colonizer (with 0.5 pop) in yet another direction. Rush build second factory on Earth.

Sensor ship launched and send it West. Send the colonizers to good planets at maximum range. Send the survey ship to the artifact north.

Earth building factories 1 per turn, balance local govern between research and manufacturing.

Second planet. Rush build ship yard. Took the pragmatic trait and converted the 3 constructors to regular colonizers (M2). Start universal translator research.

Send the regular colonizers to good planets at max range.

Got third planet, rush build shipyard.

After the fourth planet i took the benevolent trait. Unloaded the colonizer at Earth and send it to its maximum range (to scout and colonize). After this i went malevolent for the extra home world production traits.

After the fifth planet i got the universal translator, talked to the Drengin sold open borders, talked to the iridium sold open border, interstellar travel and some credit (both turn and lump sum) for a tech and one of their constructors.

Used the bought constructor to build an approval start base (and later also mining).

After that it was just balancing between research and manufacturing (both social and military) to minimize build turns for improvements and ships. Any resources i grabbed i sold to the Alterians for another two techs.

The Galactic Map

The colony list

The star bases and shipyards

Diplomacy

It was fun to do.:D

That was fun.

7 colonies

2 star bases

2 ship yards

6 techs

1 sensor ship

1 surveyor

1 colony ship

1 scout

power 46

I was ahead of the other factions but I actually felt like they were swarming all over me. I am not accustomed to playing maps that small

@thecw How important do you consider the sensor ship and the initial pragmatic perk to be?

End of EleventhStar's quote

Very important. The sensor ship allows to to see where to go. Being able to go - via the shortest route - to the best planets gets you planets that otherwise the AI will take. And three (almost) free colonizers in the first few turns of the game gives you a massive head start.

while i havenot tried this challenge the first thing i do on any game is rush buy a sensor ship. It blocks out all that unwanted propoganda
