If Two AIs are Currently at War with One Another, Could one of them Declare War on Me?

The question is relevant for one (or perhaps all) of my games.

I want to econ up, which means I want to skip military production for a while.

The problem then is the AI might declare war on you. So to forestall that, I'm planning to bribe the AI to DECLARE WAR ON EACH OTHER.

Consequently they'll ignore me and my giant, mostly benevolent, and completely undefended empire (Military? What's that?). This is a common Civ IV strat. Will this work in Gal Civ III?

Anecdotally, I've been neighbors of the Drengin with opposing ideology and a pitiful military, but they were at war with the Alterians and didn't bother with me. Meanwhile, the Krynn and decided to declare war on me from across the map (they were not at war with anyone else).

So yes, I think that tactic might work.

from what i recall in one of the dev streams paul ( maybe it was brad) said something to the effect of the ai will try to keep its wars to two fronts

Many times I have seen the Drengin at war with nearly everyone. I have had AIs attack me when I was clearly militarily superior. I think the three biggest factors are ideology, military strength, and shared borders.

Sometimes my actions may start AI wars against me. They have attacked when I set up cultural starbases in their own territory, and they have attacked me when I was close to winning a game.

I think the best way to avoid war with an AI is to manage as best you can the various factors (on the Diplomacy window) that affect how they feel about you. Paul has stated that sending a couple of freighters to them will help a lot. That will give you 2 pluses about how they feel about you.
