DRM-free release on GOG.com?

Hey,

I just wanted to know if there are any plans to release this promising-looking game on GOG. As an old SupCom fanboy I hope there are.

Cheers!

The game has landed on gog.com but steam and gog.com version are not compatible with each other. I honestly see potential for a shit storm:

Currently players cannot play together because of how MP works. Steam uses Steam servers, GoG uses GoG servers.

Also as Adrian said, "Stardock is investigating cross-platform solutions for multiplayer but nothing we're ready to announce." :)

I do understand that. But this is actively splitting the game between Steam users and GoG users. I just don't like the idea. For the future I hope that Stardock will find a way to let computer players play together, no matter where they bought the game from.

Unfortunately it's not a new problem in games.  XBox and PS4 players run into this all the time.  Unless the developer wants to build the infrastructure, this is largely unavoidable.

There is, literally, nothing we can do about this unless we are willing to invest in building the services that Steam/GOG have provided.

Well this not good to any game Ashes its not the only, split the community on 2 diferent sides never good.

But this not the 1 game i see this its been normal ...

What i think it could be done its Steam key could be use on GOG ,and GOG key could be used on Steam.

I have a similar problem with Uplay games that i have buy,  cant play with friends on Steam Uplay games.

That's a strange situation, RE:Uplay. Since Ubisoft games (Trials is the only personal example I have of this) require that Uplay be installed/opened when launching from Steam. You'd believe since the game is launched from Uplay that you could play with your friends.

Don't think it's lost on us that it will divide the grand # of players between two platforms. The days of every game development company providing their own game servers are over, IMO. Especially for smaller studios or indy studios. The cost is too great when Steam/GoG have them already.

As Brad said earlier, consoles do the same thing. I'm not about to jump into a PC vs consoles in terms of who has more players, but at least Ashes is only on PC and the possibility of connecting is higher than on console.
