First skirmish in 0.49, I got wrecked...

... and I couldn't be happier! The AI expands very fast. Lesson learned, slow and deliberate expansion isn't going to win any games.

Game ran smooth on my now modest hardware. The UI is already leaps and bounds ahead of where it was in the pre-alpha.

A few questions and issues:

1. Though I didn't make any T2 units, it did not look like I was able to make groups of T1 units into a battle group. Control groups did work, did that automatically create a battle group?

2. Perhaps because of #1, I was not able to click a group of units and issue an order to build new units and add to the group, like I could do in pre-alpha. What is this called, "reinforce"? Is a T2 unit needed to do this?

3. I would like some way of selecting a unit/squad and hitting some key combination to add it to an existing control group.

I'm really happy with this build. I'm going to give it a lot more time, maybe I can answer my own questions above.

Good to hear.

Answers:

1. Right now we don't auto promote one of the peers into a leader. We plan to have this "real soon now"(TM)

2. UI isn't hooked up

3. You mean like maybe Ctrl-Shift-5 or something like that?

Re #3, yes, something like that. I'm not entirely convinced it's that big of a deal, it depends upon battle group UI. I'll wait and see.

I think it's a good idea.  What I normally do is just have my current group selected and hold down the SHIFT key to add more to it.

I'll have to mess with that in game. Might be just what I'm looking for.

I do think its important to add units to a group without the need to have that group selected, it may be faster when playing big maps, good idea eviator.

but at the same time having a group selected and hold down the SHIFT key to add more to it its really fast too.
