Balance of Smarty, and perhaps other defensive structures

The AI took a region and fortified it with 4 closely-spaced Smarty systems. I pulled up with a battle group consisting of a T2 Zeus, 2 T1 Brute squads, 2 T1 Archer squads, and 1 T1 Scout squad. That small group destroyed all four Smarty systems, not losing a single squad. I think Smarty Systems could use a buff. I haven't yet tested other defensive structures.

Ya, the smarties are way under-powered right now.  It's on our list.

The sentinel's are kick-ass though.  Balance is still VERY much a work in progress.

Smarty's are rather long range, the problem with them is more the usage than their balance.  I place them on cliffs and well back behind the front line, they can't really accomplish anything on their own.  Vision ranges are non-existent compared to firing ranges, they AI needs to either support them, or build up in advance of them, instead of clustering them around a solitary point.  Before they'll end up at all useful to the AI, you'll make them insanely broken in the hands of a player.

Agreed again. A smarty system isn't a great deterrent unless its a really small early game scout party. However in large scale battles sometimes I'll place them behind my group to act as a missile support and use them offensively due to their low cost.
