Some first impressions

and maybe some bugs too.

As the title suggests I just recently became a founder, would like to leave some first impressions and maybe some offhand suggestions.

System:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (due for upgrade)

GPU: Radeon HD 6970 (due for upgrade)

RAM: 8GB (due for upgrade)

OS: Win7 (I have no intention of ever getting 8 or 10 thanks to recent microsoft shenanigans)

The Map Editor

The UI

  • Looks nice but i think the bluish text needs to have more contrast with the bluish backgrounds. It just feels like it runs together too much and isn't always easy to distinguish at a glance. It does get easier as you get used to it though. I've never been a fan of all this blue tones on blue tones. Even after all these years it still russles my jimmies.
  • Why come no WASD scrolling? It seems to be all the rage of late.
  • That endless buzzing (from all them hover units). I swear there aren't any bee's nests in my house.
  • Oh god how do I turn off all these rings?!?!? PLEASE! I'M HAVING SONIC 06 FLASHBACKS HERE! ;P
  • Shift+ctrl clicked a unit to select multiple units instead of shift clicking and a a moment of panic ensued. It's OK I managed to defibrillate myself and remembered that it was a shift+ctrl click.
  • Eh that's about all that jumps out at me.

The Game-play

  • Battle groups move like naval fleets. Looks nice. I might accidentally call them fleets. You've been warned.
  • Please remember to include option to disable victory points. Is nice to have option for slug fest.
  • The capture the flag to control territories is nice mechanic. Maybe make zones require a battle groups of varying minimum strengths to capture them.
  • Would be nice to be able to zoom out all the way and have just the battle groups and control zones appear as markers on the map like in Supreme Commander.
  • How do you set factories to pump out units that then automatically enter into a battle group? If that's not a thing it would be a nice addition IMO.
  • Patrol way-points auto deselect once placed while holding shift. In other words I have to press F every time i want to place a patrol way-point while holding shift to queue way-points.

Eh that's about it for first impressions.

It works in dx11 but is dead in dx12.

I have been playing with the benchmarks so far.  On the game side, I need more time and to see the game develop more.

Hardware-wise, I have both DX11 and DX12 working.  I have been playing with forced crossfire settings.  In v 0.50 implementation, AFR Friendly resulted in objects being rendered on both cards while the terrain was being handled on one card, in DX11.  With Optimized 1x1 setting, benchmark was clean but no benefits.  DX12 worked fine.  Average frame rate almost doubled.
