Im start making maps and  want to share only with founders for now ,so you  all start making maps and see what its need to be balance or add with diferent map situations.

 

Not means AOTS dont have good maps because we know they have but we want also make ower maps like a good challange to them :)

 

Give your feedback  and share your maps here ,so we can make the maps bether and more challange.

Just a note ,i dont like the 4 mexes  all over the seed i prefer have the engenier build the first  4 mexes without move, like a ACU thats what i did ,im just wait for rotations on factories.

 

 

 

Still need fix the radioactives special places to keep the original map maybe you guys have good ideas because power balance ,lets see how The new power amplifier is ..

 

I was think in special Magical islands where you have to fight for the power to late game where its supose to have water but think in time we will have that water.  

And for this we will need eng drops or make bridge in some field points something to think.

What does terrain synth type mean?

Can you change the Cell size after you create a map? OMG I used the highest one

- When i Changed the Build Quality from 1 to 2 and tried to Rebuild, the game did not like it and kicked me out i guess i will stay with Build Quality to 1 for now

- What is the best recommended number for Erosion? i have is on 500 and i think its really low.

Can the Dev's answer me here and anyone with knowledge?

You can't change the cell size after you start (this is because the terrain data for the editor is stored as "painted" cells and there is no easy way to recreate that).

If it is dying when you bump up build quality, it is most likely related to running out of memory (which is also related to cell size).  In general, we use level 4 quality for our shipping maps, but that requires at least 32 GB of RAM and a good video card to process the larger size maps.  The difference in quality after 4 probably isn't worth the processing time, but as always, YMMV.

We usually use 500 passes, internally.  More adds more and deeper channeling, but takes longer to run and vice versa.  It will look better at higher quality levels as each level subdivides the terrain more and the erosion can make nicer looking channels.

I did not Sleep yesterday at all till i finished the map, it saddened me a lot knowing that i used the worst cell size, because i am trying to give the best looking map for everyone

 

After testing and playing with the Map Editor, I did Manage to Rebuild my TWILIGHT FLAME Map a few times using different build quality and erosion

First Time build was done on: Build Quality 1 Erosion 500. >206 MB >> http://www.filedropper.com/aotstwilightflamemap

Second Time Build was done on: Build Quality 2 Erosion 2000. >191 MB >> http://www.filedropper.com/aotstwilightflamemapbq2e2000

I am Using an FX8350 with 24GB Ram and a GTX770 4GB. My PC cannot handle a Build Quality 4 in anyway possible, not sure if its a map editor bug or its my PC.

 

Here I did put 4 links of my map using different qualities and erosion's, with one is the best? can anyone see the difference between them?

Please try giving me you opinion so i can learn the best way to create maps.

And why adding more erosion make the map size smaller? because erosion make mountains look smaller?

 

I will try to remake the map or making a new one using the lowest cell size in a few days i guess.

It is your PC, as I said before, you need 32 GBs of RAM to build level 4 maps beyond a certain combination of sizes.

Good to now  you decide to make maps and know how ,feel free to msg me if you need something like i might need something  we need more players for that ,i try your map you need  eco balance between  relays on the right zones ,right now mexes is the important key, mass goes out too fast  with t2 units and t3 there are no stable eco in game or you it goes up or down this really needs be fix .

 

Hope in future we have a upgrade option to mexes its bit imba and i dont think have 100 mexes on a map its good.

Like it is players dont have a way to expanande de economy on your map but its good .

If you see my new seton map thats the way we showld play less mexes /upgrades on eco and more fluid fights all over the field without see mexes all places.

But with new power we can now think in other options.

 

This a new map normaly i think maps like the maps i make to Faforever, good start ( depending the players amount and map style)  to fight for the rest on the map...

lol OK i get it now thx.

so he means that there is not enough metal deposits in the map to keep the flood of army T1 and T2..

I am gonna fix that.

Yes and sry Mexes  same has Metal.

 Metal extractors maybe the right to say since you are extract metal, but we in FAF are ust to the mexes word fits bether, like Techs upgrades T1,T2,T3,T4  its easier to say.

When you finish a map 1 play it ,its the best way to you see the bugs and understand how players will feel play it.

anyway i am changing the first map

Its really easy to make maps when you get to know the Map Editor.

The Dev's have done an awesome job with the Map editor, I can make a big map in an hour! really happy.

 

I am gonna start making maps for everyone, maybe release 1 per week.

Map editor can be fun but its very standard like it is now and its not optimize , today i have 32 gb ddr 3 2400 XMB beast and its the same has my 16 gb make bether quality at leval 4 crash on the same points,Normaly i use  Unity and 3d studio max  to make  units and maps for other games.

We need brush elevation, bether tool to editing the heightmaps in photoshop,texturing the terrain only give you 4 standard Props ,we could have a resource browser  where we could export and import.

Props,decals ,strats  or a export plugin mask .

 

But at least we have a map editor beta fase to have fun yes.

So your saying that having 16GB and 32GB right now its the same? building a map at lvl4? why is that happening? maybe a bug?

that's weird. TheRealWarpstorm can you answer that please? so does The_Engenieer need more than 32GB?

 

Anyway, what I do recommend is always to start with the lowest cell size when you create a map, yes you need a better PC to handle the lowest cell size map but the good part is that your getting the best quality map, less edgy more detailed terrain. that cannot be changed after you create the map.

The good thing is that the other options  in the map editor can be changed anyway you want and rebuild the map to get even better quality later on when you get a better PC or somebody else will take the files and rebuild the map in better quality.

Why you don't take one of my maps and rebuild them at lvl 4, will it work?

Yes i ask to a friend 16 GB before buy to try and its the same .

But other guys need to test that, can be true if all have the same problem.

 I wil try on your map.

But just a note, even with few tools the Map Editor quality its very good .

I will disagree with this.  It may look best, but the in game perf will be a lot worse.  You will need a much better computer to run these maps (especially late game).  I'm going to recommend not changing it from the default (at least until computers get a little better).  We use the default for all of our maps because it is the sweet spot between looking good and running well.

 

One thing I will recommend is not getting too attached to any maps made during the alpha or beta.  I reserve the right to make changes to the editor or gameplay code that will invalidate any maps made.

I understand, so its not about trying to create the best looking map possible, its about us players trying to run the map. so your telling me that if i build the best looking map, and release it to the public, them most of them will not the map smoothly because it needs a really powerful PC? so making it need a good PC and Running it too?

That's fine with me and i do hope you do some good changes to the map editor like creating more Ground levels. Right now the game have only 2 ground levels to play with and that's really sad. we love to play by creating some crazy maps but  cannot do to much because of that.

And i am not getting attached to it.. no i am kidding yes i am and its really fun to play with, but i am doing it to get some new player-made maps out there for the Alpha and Beta testers who want to try some new maps.

Don't worry we just go ahead and remake them if the community ask for it lol.

For now why you don't give us something to upload our unofficial maps so every player who want to try something new can download and test them.

Ok please someone explain me something

I did create a ice map, but right now i want to change it to desert map,I tried rebuilding it a few times with different terrain, but it always stay Ice, is there a way to change it?

yes i did, rebuilding for the first time using 1 kind of terrain after trying to change the terrain will not work anymore, it happens only to me or to everyone?
