Founders Ashes–Alpha 0.70 Preview

Greetings!

Alpha 0.70 is due to arrive on December 10. Originally, 0.70 was going to be called Beta 1 but it was decided to keep labeling it an alpha until we add the Substrate into the game.

There are three big features for 0.70:

Ice Worlds (pictured below)

There’s a lot of new maps. All of them are fairly open compared to the original maps.  We are still working on lighting for these maps but they sure are pretty.

From the below screenshots, please pick your favorite 3 in order your most favorite to your third most favorite.  We’ll use your feedback to determine what we show to the general public.

Orbitals

Image 4 above shows the Orbital Fabricator.  It be built immediately (though it’ll exhaust your initial metal inventory) and with 100 quanta (and players start with 100 quanta) you can bring in an Incursion force anywhere you have vision.  This force includes: 1 Zeus. ! Nemesis. 1 archer group and 2 Brute groups.  It’s not massive but it’s enough to wreak havoc on a player who has spread themselves too thin and has not done a good job in protecting their supply line.

You can also use the Orbital Fabricator to call an Engineer down anywhere on the map (costs 50 quanta).  Early on that’s incredibly expensive but later you’ll be glad that you can instantly spawn an engineer on the other side of the map.

Cruiser Factory

You won’t be able to instantly start building Cruisers like before.   The Cruiser factory will require radioactives and a lot of metal to build.  This makes early build order decisions matter a lot more and paves the way for us to add more units later on without the factory becoming ridiculous.

Having separate factories for each tier sounds nice. But why would the factory become ridiculous? What about the Army reinforcements interface? Wouldn't it become ridiculous too, since it shows all "orderable" unit types? I very much hope you keep that the way it is (or make it more advanced), since I consider it to be one of the (most) noteworthy features of Ashes, without a doubt.
