AI Level

Hello there,

i am not a power player at all. From time to time i give aots a try and now and then it gives me a big push to test harder. Last days i tried to play against ai on the 'normal' level, not beginners ai. And i must say, i dont have the remotest chance to win on most maps. On the other hand, on some other maps with more then one player i win easily. Is there i common way to win? The hardest time for me is within the first 30 minutes. If i survive this timespan and be able to build up a working infrastructure i can win. But usually i am overrun without getting the first radioactive spots for a longer time so therefore i am not able to upgrade my units.

The most valuable thing i discovered within the last days was creating a sky factory along with a factory for the pan device. With the pan my units increased their coverage massivly and i was able to destroy enemy units at a greater distance.

But this only let me survive 10 minutes longer before i'm overrun.

I tried to build a massive defence system with smarties (needs only metal) but again i am bombed out within minutes. Maybe one has to be more aggressive?

Could you please share your insights for strategies against the ai?

That is likely pretty much it :) Get out there and capture those nodes.

Yeah, at this point in the game quick aggressive expansion is heavily rewarded while turtling and building a bunch of smarties really doesn't help all that much.  Although capturing nodes and expanding will always give an advantage I would expect that with the addition of more harass units in Beta that it will be much more punishable.

So yes at this point in the alpha, expand aggressively and you will probably win as long as you are spending your resources.  However, expect some significant meta shifts as development moves along.

Yeah I agree, game play is likely to change a lot with next patch. Air being a lot more useful, faster build times for defence buildings and an orbital ability that improves economic income and stacks should give people who expand slower a lot more options I think.

Hi guys,

as i am not such a 'rusher' i really dislike this kind of playing. I love building a huge army and then rush the map. But, like a borg, "we will adapt your culture".

regards.

Haha, one of us one of us! (really though, I enjoy turtling quite a lot but it just isn't viable quite yet.)
