Quick beta feedback after one game. Most QOL suggestions with a few possible bugs
Just some quick beta feedback/first impressions. Nothing really related to the flow of the game/balance as I haven't put much time into the beta yet.
Bugs/possible bugs are in bold, in case you want to skip my opinions/suggestions.
The game runs MUCH smoother/ looks much crisper now and I haven't messed with any settings since the update so KUDOS!
I noticed something that would I think help. When you select more than one unit there is nothing in the UI that shows you the units you have selected, their health, etc. (unless you have the empire tree expanded) This is a prevalent UI element in most RTS games and it is useful for knowing if a particular unit of a control group died, or how you composition is looking after/during an engagement. Heck, it is just nice to make sure that my engineer didn't get accidentally thrown in with my selection) I highlighted an open area that I think could be used to show the different units you have selected, and how many of each you have. You could then possibly click on the unit type selected that you want details about and it would show you each individual selected unit of that type as well as their health.
Edit: forgot to post a link to where I think the currently selected units area could be

Empire tree should auto-popup when armies are created in addition to when control groups are made. (right now if you make an army but not a control group it doesn't show) In addition I personally feel that it should be expanded as for a new player it would be REALLLLLY easy for a new player to miss the little drop down arrow to expand the various groups. (read, I'm an idiot and I missed it because the expand empire tree hotkey isn't working for me now for some reason)
The expand empire tree hotkey doesn't seem to be working?
Did I miss it or is there a way to remove all units from a control group?
For hotkeys, is there a possibility we could have the major tabs at the bottom be assigned a key that you press to enter that tab at which point you could use a grid system to select any option inside the tab. an example would be press "Q" to go into actions followed by another hotkey to select the option inside the tab. this would allow us to have a universal hotkey system for any clickable/pressable UI elements present along the bottom of the screen. Just so I'm not misunderstood, I don't want the tabs hidden just change the way that things are hotkeyed (as an option.) Currently you can switch between quanta ability tabs with "tab" but it doesn't work for entering the actions menu.
I would like to see an option to make unit range bars a toggle vs a hold to see. I really like having them show all the time but dislike holding alt constantly. There is already a toggle health so it seems like a logical option imo. The range circles also seem a bit buggy atm (randomly turning on and off at times even after releasing alt.)
I would like to see the individual health and range for each unit not just the health/range for groups of units (even if they are produced in groups.) (I realized I do love individual units for some reason, I always end up writing about some way to make the units more individual haha.)
I think that a different UI color when playing as the substrate would be pretty cool. (LOVING THEM BTW!!!!)
Anyways, I'm planning to write an extensive write-up if I have enough time to play over the next week or so.
Good job guys, keep it up!! ![]()
